Hi everyone! I'm new to this regional group and new to NaNoWriMo. This will be my first year participating and I'm very excited about it. I've changed my novel idea about a dozen times, but think I have finally settled on one I will love writing.
I don't know anyone in my area (Peoria) doing Nano. My brother in Chicago is doing it for the first time, too. We may Skype write alot together.
My question(s) is are there any other "oldies" in this group. I'm 57 and would love to join some of the meetups, but don't want to be the only grandma in the bunch.
By way of introduction, I enjoy photography, crafting, writing and making sock monkeys. I have a web site for my sock monkeys called Sock Monkey Ranch and several blogs as well as a couple of Etsy shops.
My novel is a comedy set in a mobile home park.
Would love to meet others in the Peoria area.

Hi, Jan.
No, you aren't the only "old" person who's NaNo-ing. I was your age when I first participated in 07. I've been to write-ins, movie nights, and park parties. Funny, when it comes to writing I don't consider my age. And neither does anyone else that I've noticed. We all just get together and write.
I hope you enjoy NaNo and get lots of writing done.

For the record, fifty-seven is not 'old', and I say that not to flatter but because I speak to a lot of people in the 55+ range every day at work...its just like my age group. There are the ones who are sharp as tacks, and there are the ones who are...not so sharp.
That being said, if I could have convinced my mother to NaNo this year you would have met her at some of the meets, and she's but three years your junior this month...still, I hope to see you around. :)

Thanks guys! I keep trying to talk my friends into doing NaNo with me, but so far no takers. I like to write at Borders (75th Ave & Bell). Anyone go there to write? If so, maybe we could write together. I guess I should clarify that I'm looking for a girl writing buddy. I would feel funny meeting a guy I don't know to write together. My husband might feel even funnier about it!

if you check the board here, you'll see that there are a couple of threads for west siders. it may be too far west for you, but i imagine if you hop on the 101, it won't take any time at all. (i'm not a driver, so when i say "i imagine", i really mean that.)
