So this happens most years. Sometimes here, sometimes elsewhere, but I'm all for the NIMBY when it is coal-fired power plants, but if someone is going to dare me - well, dare me here.

The idea is to leave some things that you've always wanted to see in a book - say Harry Potter being a prat (well, something that you haven't seen maybe) - say an alien playing a game of Twister while singing the national anthem of Canada. Then someone else takes that dare and puts it into their novel.
Some people even take that dare and put it into their novel every year.
More than one person can take the dare.
If you want to take one or more, post that you're taking them.
Fire up those imaginations - a week and a few hours to go!

What sort of dares can you come up with? Doesn't matter how crazy - someone will find a way to warp their story to include a Shovel of Doom, or whatever you can come up with.

Go ahead.
Impress me.

I dare someone to put something like these in their novel:
- a loss of cabin pressure and a convoluted solution to the problem involving chewing gum
- imagining one's own head out of existence - only to somehow recover and live on
- a ring that protects one from bad thoughts that goes horribly sideways
- a talking dog that refuses to talk for a really good reason
- a digital camera that takes pictures of what the taker really wants reality to be like
- an invention that logically and scientifically controls the weather for a localized area that does not involve magic or divine intervention
- moldy cheese that hides the secret

- a ring that protects one from bad thoughts that goes horribly sideways
- a digital camera that takes pictures of what the taker really wants reality to be like

Taking those two.

Leaving:

-someone cuts their own head off with a chainsaw
Bonus Points if they cut it off clean
Double Bonus Points if they do it accidentally
Triple Bonus Points if they somehow survive

-someone buries a castle with sand
Bonus Points if it's the hero
Double Bonus Points if there's a princess locked in one of it's towers

- A gun explodes during a shoot off from a bullet getting stuck inside
Bonus Points if this is during a shoot off
Double Bonus Points if they end up killing someone through it anyway

that's it? Just me and Angel exchanging dares?
Meowtima - flex that big brain of yours. Throw down some scientific dares that oh_the_wit might pick up for her Cyborg nation.

I read a story about a guy who cut his own head off, but with a weed-whacker - well, he was in a horror story and he was a cardboard cutout from a convenience store.

I'm going to take the "buries a castle with sand" - but it'll probably be more of a demolition sort of thing -yeah. Have to find a princess to put in the building....that has possibilities too. Thanks!

Leaving:

- a book that contains ancient vampire lore that if read correctly gleans out the properties of blood that nourish a body - which might lead to a synthetic substitute just as tasty as the caffeinated kind

- magic underwear (without instructions)

- a bag of holding

- a Zipcar that has an unstable, but programmable via iPhone or iTouch, interdimensional travel option

what else you got, Angel? If you can't speak, just make the motions and I'll figure out what you mean.

I have a dare.

Go to MyLifeIsAverage (dot) com

On the second page, pick the second post.

Incorporate it into your story.

--

also: introduce a character who thinks the Earth is flat.
double points if he isn't a Southern hick.
triple points if he's something like a college professor.
quadruple points if he's proven right at the end of the story, but still no one believes him.

I think that should suffice for now : )

VirgoMaiden - Is that meant to be whatever random post is on the website? Or do you have a specific one in mind?

I'm going to take all of them. YOU HEARD ME - ALL OF THEM!!! Muahahahaha *cough*

Very well then. You asked for it.

Gadget: an external apparatus used to cool the body temperature of humans or cyborgs with ultra-fast metabolisms. (50 points)
-10 points bonus if the apparatus is steampunk
- 20 point bonus if the process of putting one on is described in excruciating detail, as the process cannot possibly be pleasant

Character quirk: compulsive drinking of [insert beverage here] and its consequences. (10 points)
- 10 point bonus if the drink is exotic
- 10 point bonus if the drink is restricted to civilians for some reason (explain why)
- 20 point penalty for trying to apply the bonus points for vampires drinking blood

Death: a chef is caught inside a giant food mixer and is, um, beat to death with the paddle attachment. (25 points)
- 15 point bonus for heroic rescue of the chef that results in failure
- 10 point bonus if the chef is mixed in with food
- 50 point bonus if the chef ends up being cooked and eaten

Slice of life: A character goes to great length to lecture other characters on the correct way to eat a piece of gourmet chocolate (or another seemingly simple food) (15 points)

Character quirk: a character was born on February 29th and his/her physical growth is at 1/4 the speed of his/her friends. (but his/her mental development is at regular speed) (25 points)

Pun: Conjure up a situation where the pun/punchline is "I'm in cider." (10 points)

LOL -

Oh I have a plan for each one of those. PPPFFFTTT as if I didn't plan on a steampunk machine - special fluids - and the accouterments of each.

I guess I should ask - are there any rules on how I put them in the novel? LOL Or can I just slip them in as I see fit??

Btw - I don't typically write death scenes - especially ones as fantastic at the huge food processor. *hmmmm* *idea bulb goes bright!!!*

Thanks!

Slip them in as you see fit really. The point system is arbitrary to begin with.

Awesome -

Ok so here is the deal. I will accept any dare until 4:00pm on Friday. If you have a good one, lay it on me!

haha I think I have created enough avenues to put anything you could imagine in my story. LOL that is not an invitation to think of impossible situations. haha

Thanks

Taking this one. <3

{Can I has bonus points if it's the human that figures out how to read it right?}

Leaving:

One of your characters tries to tell another character they like them by saying/leaving a note saying "Meet me at the Hotel Room"
-Bonus Points if they actually go
-Double Bonus Points if they think it's a joke.
-Triple if the character plays it off like it is.
-Quad if the MC THEN figures out it's not a joke.

i want someone to write about pregnancy:

a man gets pregnant

a woman gets pregnant with a non-human baby

a dog gets pregnant and has kittens

a preganant woman saves the world

how women are elevated to a higher social status when they bear children/or don't bear children

how the world stops conceiving children (like "Children of Men")

Okay, this is the best I can come up with so far, but I'll think of something better in time to mess with Draven.

  • a zombie/zombies [you had to know that I was going to go there] that was not originally human (i.e. zombie bunnies, zombie daffodils, whatever)
  • a character who cannot fall down (even if s/he tries). explanation optional.
  • ongoing dissapearances of objects (i.e. food, desk supplies, 1 shoe, pictures from teh wall, whatever). Bonus points if the explanation is delayed until the climax or end. Double points if the explanation a) is integral to the plot or b) has nothing to do with the plot at all.

And, [drumroll please] my favorite Dare of all time...

I am taking this one.
Leaving:

The Hero is trying to be as evil as possible, but always ends up doing good.
-Double Bonus Points if no one notices he's trying to be a bad person
-Triples Bonus Points if he cusses one of the clueless characters out, and the clueless character doesn't notice.
-Quadruple if, at the end of the book the character gives up on trying to be evil and tries to be good, ending up doing an act of evil. <3

Late Night Caffeine Rage Theater presents...

We Shouldn't Let Meowtima Think Ever Again
Gather round, boys and girls... there's something for everyone...

Challenge #1: Michael Bay is nothing. NOTHING!
The seven wonders of the world combine to make a giant Wondercombinaformer! Think a giant Transformers robot created with parts that are the seven wonders of the world.
*Must provide details on how the combining takes place. Will the Colosseum be the body, the head, or the right fist of the giant Wondercombinaformer? Will the pyramids make for some cool shoulder pads?
*Since there are numerous lists of 7 wonders, feel free to choose any one of the lists here. However, each Wonderercombinaformer should only be created from the objects on the same list.
*2x "I'm better than Michael Bay" bonus if you actually conceive a plot in which this dare makes sense.
*10x Insanity Bonus if you manage to draw a picture of said Wondercombinaformer.
Images for reference to what I'm talking about:

    Turn these: Photobucket

    Into this: Photobucket

Challenge #2: This is Something I Always Wanted to Do!
TWO BEST FRIENDS. TWO 2X100 BURGERS FROM IN N' OUT. TWO ANIMAL STYLE FRIES. TWO SOFT DRINKS OF THEIR CHOICE. Let the challenge begin!
    Photobucket

Challenge #3: Schrodinger's Mail Order Bride
*Schrodinger's Mail Order Bride comes in a box.
*As long as one does not open the box, therein exists the possibility of the perfect bride.
*If one does open the box and look within, the contents of the box changes because it is being observed.
    Photobucket

Challenge #4: Vampires? more like HAMpires!
*Since in life its vessel is one rung lower on the food chain than humans, the hampire possesses a brooding existential angst that would make most humanoid vampires jealous and awed. The eldest of this vampiric subspecies have survived hundreds of years, quietly boding their time in shadowy barns while their human kins hogged the center stage of vampire melodrama. However, some of the elder hampires decided the time of retribution has come. Justice shall trample bacon eaters like a stampede of wild boars.
*And pray tell, what of the hampire's estranged cousin, the spampire? What role will they play in this fevered swine struggle?
    Photobucket

Challenge #5: Or I Ran Out of Crazy Ideas and Pictures, so Here's an Easy One
*An alien couple visits a totally incompetent interplanetary travel agent and gets all sorts of wrong ideas about Earth.
*One of them is to visit New York City for their honeymoon.
*Upon their arrival in NYC, they are summarily mugged, swindled, cheated, etc.

Dare #1: A character who denies the fact that they have a shadow.
Double points if it becomes a major plot point.
Triple points if the shadow is sentient.
Quadruple points if the shadow denies being attached to a person.

Dare #2: See above, but substitute a reflection for the shadow.

great great great idea - I knew I could count on you.
I'm going to take this one.

    I'm leaving:
    - werewolf meets Samson - his hair grows about 4 times the normal rate when not wolfed up under the moon, but his control is inversely proportional to the length of his hair (facial/arm/chest) while wolfed up

    - school for way below average teenagers - not to uncover the swans, just to isolate them and have untimely accidents

    - a rabbit that achieves sentience, but needs to use its limited vocal range and relatively clumsy paws to communicate to its owner that eating him will be a great mistake for all of humanity

    - film that is already exposed when purchased, though in a sealed box from the factory - MC buys and goes to load it, then debates whether to develop it, not knowing what is on it

    Oh, dibs!

    - a talking dog that refuses to talk for a really good reason

I think I hear psychological murder mystery with this one... Possibly some good Cop dialogue discussing why this dog has seen and won't share with Johnny Law.

Cop 1 - "Without your testimony, Biscuit, this case is gonna roll over and play dead..."

Cop 2 - "Don't make us sit up and beg for this."

    Scene.

I'm being selfish - taking this and giving nothing back, at least for now. Up until this morning, I'd been planning to enter Sunday with a bag of twizzlers and little else. Now, I have a vague idea bouncing around, and I'll be fitting this dare in somehow.

Go to the Runaway Tales community on Live Journal. Do one of their prompts/ requirements. (3 prompts per story, but they'll explain in the rules section there.) If you're feeling particularly good, do one of their challenges, like Sundae, or Spumoni, or Neopolitan.

YOU MUST: include whatever you wrote into your novel.

    Happy writing!

    "Watch out rabbits!"

First Charcater: "I love you, *insert Second Character's name here*."
Second Character: "Well, I love *insert Third Character's name here*."
