I thought it would be fun to get to know everyone a little better. I'm assuming most of us like to read, so what are you reading right now?

I'm reading Xombies: Apocalypse Blues. It's your typical Agent X infects the population and turns everyone into flesh eating zombies while a young girl fights them off with various bludgeoning weapons. It's quite awesome.

I'm reading Destiny Valley by Fred Grove, a western that takes place in the Gila Wilderness down by Silver City. Not really for research for my Nano (which is going to take place in the Gila) but just because I want to read anything that takes place in the Gila since I'm not living there - yet! - and I really hope to eventually get out of ABQ!

I've been trying to finish World War Z by Max Brooks for a while now, but I get way too absorbed in it and I've got way too much school work right now, so mostly I've been reading literary criticism and theory papers along with some cinema theory stuff in there.

HOWEVER, I did start reading Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay the other day. It kind of fits with the genre I am doing this year, so I figured it would be good to read some books of that type. I've seen TONS of thrillers and horrors on the big screen, but not read them. I really need to fix that.

I just finished Dry by Augusten Burroughs (which is somewhat related to my Nano) and loved it.

I've also been on an Anita Shreve kick lately- I think she's a great example of chick lit that has substance. She uses really great imagery and wording too. I just finished "Light on Snow".

Oh and re-reading The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls for book club this month. I might like it even more this time around.

In case you can't tell, I tend to read a few things at once. :)

I just now finished reading Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. I like Urban Fantasy when I take the time to read. I'm either going to read Lovely Bones or Heart Shaped box next. Not sure yet.

I'm kind of greasing the gears for Nanowrimo. Gotta see how the published ones do it....

Just finishing up "The Echo in the Bones" by Diana Gabaldon -- seventh in a really well-done series re: time travels in Scotland and "the Colonies" (1745-1777 and 1945-1980). Amazing historical research with extraordinary descriptions, dialog, and plotting. Gabaldon is GOOD.

I'm currently reading Soldier of Sidon by Gene Wolfe. His writing style is one I've never encountered before; I'm still trying to decide if I truly like it or not. I recently finished Angels and Demons (Dan Brown) and loved it. I'm also picking my way through Allen Mandelbaum's translation of The Odyssey. Sometimes, it's nice to go back to the really old stuff . . . :)

I'm reading Zamboni Rodeo: Chasing Hockey Dreams from Austin to Albuquerque, by Jason Cohen, a reporter for Texas Monthly who spent a season riding along on the team bus of the Austin Ice Bats. At the time I started reading this book, I did not know that my NaNo novel this year would be Murder on the Sports Desk, but I'm beginning to think maybe my novel is set during hockey season.

I'm in the middle of reading Inkspell ... book 2 of Inkheart. I like keeping up with what my teens are reading, although I haven't managed to read the Twilight series yet (and they keep telling me I must! LOL) I also just finished reading the first book of the Looking Glass wars which was interesting. All light reading at this point after plowing through Atlas Shrugged this summer. Like some of you I tend to read multiple books at one time, but in preparation for Nano I decided to keep it easy. 1 book at a time. Since my Nano this year is a sequel to last years Nano, I need to finish rereading my own novel! Oh I love last minute crunch time! ;0)

Right now I'm reading Level 26 by Anthony E. Zuiker and Duane Swierczynski... I am writing a serial killer/character drama this year and I have read the Dexter Books and others, so I figured I'd give this one a try. It has turned out to be a bit on the corny side, but still pretty enjoyable. It's very cliched, which in a way is good as that gives me ideas on how to avoid the common pitfalls in these kinds of stories.

between the very unpleasant bouts with mandatory reding for school, I'm reading Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. Very dark, but very brilliant, and quite incredible. Its got me a wee bit scared of rabies though.

Just finished "Heart Shaped Box" by Joe Hill (Horror) - a very quick read with no slow parts, and "The Pilgrimage" by Paulo Coelho - kind of a spiritual work tied to a story; some good nuggets to ponder. Next up is "Dewey" by Vicki Myron and Bret Witter.

@DariusRising7: I've only read Fight Club, but I really liked it. I keep telling myself I have to pick up more of his stuff!

I'm re-reading some early Anne Rice, currently Queen of the Damned. And X-Men: Legacy for comics. And a biography of Bloody Mary, since I think the best biographies can read like interesting fiction.

At the moment I'm working my way through the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman for my senior thesis. Other than that, I'm rereading Dracula by Bram Stoker in celebration of Halloween. After that my brother sent me a book called Lonely Werewolf Girl that I will be reading during NaNoWriMo should I find myself unable to write for one reason or another. From there, who knows? Whatever manga comes out next I assume.

Due to my tendency towards self-punishment, I am reading Gravity's Rainbow, The God Factor, and have Augusten Burrough's A Wolf at the Table scratching to be read. In addition to this, I'm re-reading Macbeth, many chapters of my Sociology texts, and a bunch of Melville. This is an English major speaking, if you couldn't tell. It's a tough month we're about to enter!

I tend to multi-task with what I'm reading. xD

Sooo right now I'm working on the Surgeon's Mate by Patrick O'Brian, which is part of the Aubrey/Maturin series of historical fiction (Royal Navy ftw). I'm also reading Frankenstein for school, and The Way of All Flesh because I found a really neat old copy of it at Page One. It's not terribly interesting but I figure I can learn something from it, at least.

Add onto that To Rule the Waves and some book on Frigates and Sloops, both non-fiction and both involving the Age of Sail, because I am an unabashed geek in that realm.

Right now I'm reading The Rainmaker....and have been for the past two years. Time doesn't leave a lot for reading. I also have a collection of Cornwell books that I've been intending to read, but haven't gotten around to yet.
Mostly my reading consists of comic books and manga. If you count those, I'm currently reading Tokyo Crazy Paradise for the 5th time! ^_^

I'm reading Terry Pratchett too.. his latest in the Discworld series "Unseen Academicals." I picked up Christopher Brookmyre's latest "Pandemonium" and I'm reading a non-fiction on paranoia called "Whispers."

Usually reading helps me write but I'm stuck.
