This year, I'll be hosting a write-ins at the Starbucks next to Barnes and Noble in Southcenter. It's worked well for write-in locations in the past. It's a good central location, and we've had a ton of success there in the past.
I'll start the write-ins at 5:00 PM and run them until 10:00 PM.
I'll have a yellow duck out. Can't wait to see people there.

So run one Tamas. But pick a new venue. (Though you're going to take over the Tue/Thur come the 17th right?)

Awesome, I was thinking Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays were bereft of write-ins in my area and lo and behold I find the Monday and Wednesday B&N write-ins on the region calendar! So now I'll only have Saturdays off from write-ins but oh well, gotta give my right hand a break sometime ;)

How did it go? I tried to make it tonight, but in the end, wasn't able to make it. Still going to try and make it tomorrow, despite the early closing. Definitely hoping to meet with some of the other writers around here, as I'm curious what everyone is doing and how people are progressing.

The write-in went pretty successful. There were 6 people not including myself who came to the write-in and we had a productive time writing. We managed to overtake 2 tables.

Went to the write-in at Borders at Southcenter today and there was no organized event. Why was it on the calendar? Since I had to arrange baby-sitting it was a waste of time and money.

Oh no -- Seattle's Best Coffee at Borders near Sears, Sunday between noon and 4pm? I think I was the last one there, leaving shortly before 6pm; my yellow rubber duck may have been obscured by my (small, green) laptop. (There were a few ducks on one of the other small tables, though.) We were on the padded seats in the back-right side of the cafe, near the balcony (?). (Well, I got there a little late -- 1:30pm or something -- so I don't know if other people were there right at noon, if you got there at noon. I assume so, though; there were at least five other people today, and they looked pretty settled when I came in.)
Usually, you can tell who the Seattle NaNo-ers because of the pile of rubber ducks and the complaining about meeting word goals for the day. :/ Where were you sitting?
(Not the organizer, just trying to help.)

If you're over 72,000 words I hope you weren't complaining about word count...lol!!!
Maybe I was confused. I was assuming this would be an organized event with word sprints. So it was just about sitting in a coffee shop writing? If so, then it was my mistake. I was looking forward to more social interaction. My learning curve I suppose.

Hi Lori,
It usually is a bit more organized. There was some confusion as to who was hosting yesterday. Hopefully that won't be an issue in the future!

Ha! I discovered (on Tuesday the 17th, no less) that my writerly subconscious really wanted me to write two novels this year, not one long novel (arghgh). So now I am scrambling to get #2 done by 11/30 (I just hit 20,000 last night) and not trying to think the word "trilogy" too loudly to give anyone any ideas. Bleargh. :)
There were at least two word sprints (but I don't think any more than that) -- it varies by group. For yesterday's crowd, I think people just had more momentum without sprints, so there weren't any loud, obvious signs of organization. I've been at write-ins with 10-minute sprints every 20-30 minutes or so, too (which is probably the opposite). Next time you're at a write-in, I strongly encourage you to find the people with ducks and introduce yourself. :) (And mention it if you have any specific write-in goals, like hoping for sprints.) It's nice to meet other NaNo-ers non-virtually, and there's usually some social chatting in-between writing scenes (or as part of general NaNo-tradition procrastination).
(edit: Hm, or maybe there was confusion about organization; I missed that detail. I just assumed people were, you know, not in a sprinting mood. Renda, were you trying to run the write-in through skype?!)

I love how other people hijacked my write-in thread even though the complaint is not about the write-in on Mondays and Wednesdays.
An update for these write-ins (Mondays and Wednesdays). Today, I will be running a little late.
