Hello, hello!
Saskatoon is throwing down the gauntlet and challenging Melbourne to a Word War. We have several unique awards that will be given out at the end of November, but I will allow James to do the honours for that, later on in this thread. (That's your cue, James!)
In addition to the regions going up against each other, I am hereby challenging the ML of Melbourne, Lauren E. Mitchell, to an individual word war. We can watch the regional progress in our regional headers; we can watch me kick her butt in this post. ;)

Let the taunting begin!
Current Status:

**This thread is posted in both the Saskatoon forum and the Melbourne forum. Through the magic of this post, people from one region may easily taunt people from the other region without needing to affiliate with the enemy. How's that for snazzy?**

YOU'RE throwing the gauntlet? Ha! Saskatoon, ladies and gentlemen, are so scared of Melbourne that they didn't dare issue this challenge until I'd already gone over there and posted in their region wars thread. Then they just had to throw down the gauntlet because otherwise they would've looked like cowards!
Also, neener neener, we're gonna win.

Actually, Saskatoon thought Melbourne was going to be such a pushover that we didn't even consider you for a second until YOUR ML came and voted for you in our word wards poll!
And we will stomp you all!

We can crush you in your sleep(time differences and such).

And on a lighter note...
Hi! I’m James, Saskatchewan’s (self-appointed) International Ambassador. Welcome to the 2009 Incredible International Challenge. Thanks for throwing down the gauntlet, Karalianne.
In keeping with ancient traditions from times long forgotten (2003), participating regions contend for five awards.*
Bonus awards! (introduced in 2008)*
Have a fun, productive November!
Sincerely,
James
The fine print:
* Award winners will be announced in early December. Bonus awards will be awarded unless I don’t feel like it, or procrastinate, or can’t find all the numbers necessary to complete the calculations**.

I just ask because we need an address to send the drop bears... although from the looks of that map we should equip them with mittens and furry hats first...

Thanks, but some British moron already released them over here and they're destroying our biodiversity. Now if you could release Vampire bunnies that such the blood of other bunnies, I'd be very happy.
Bunnies - destroying the land since the arrival of the white man. They're like cane toads, just not as poisonous, non carnivorous and edible...

There was only one vote for Melbourne. I voted for a Bend, Oregon, because I know a writer who's there. Everyone is an equal portion of awareness operating a body to interface with the world, so if you're going to disrespect everyone else's votes by subverting the whole process of voting by challenging Melbourne based on only one vote, then you're being completely unfair to everyone else who placed any votes for locations which have not been issued challenges. Either drop the challenge with Melbourne, or issue challenges with every location which got any votes at all -- those are the only options for making this fair. Why should one vote placed for Melbourne result in a challenge, if one vote placed for Bend didn't result in a challenge? There is no good excuse.

Hi there Alan! I'm Lauren, I'm the ML for Melbourne.
The reason Melbourne was officially challenged rather than Bend or any of the other one-vote regions is that Janna issued a challenge to the MLs of the one-vote regions, and I happened to be first to respond (I was surprised, considering the time zone difference between us -- I guess Janna must've stayed up late MLing!). She posted this at the end of the region war thread in Saskatoon's forum:
It was simply a case of first in best dressed, rather than any intentional effort to exclude any region. There are only so many spaces for regions in the 'Where We Stand' section of the region header, and I, on behalf of Melbourne, just happened to be quickest to respond to the challenge. The decision wasn't made on the poll result; it was made on that extra challenge.

Locking threads is always censorship, thus ebil, especially when even one person feels a burning desire to say more in the thread.

Contacting the MLs of places that got one vote is disrespectful to the people who voted for places that got two or more votes.

Regions that got two or more votes got automatically challenged, as far as I can tell from the thread in question. Regina, Montana, Calgary and Wales were contacted to see if they were interested, and once their MLs responded, the challenges were issued. Regina, Montana and Calgary joined the war; Wales did not opt to join the war. There wasn't any disrespect to places that got two or more votes; in fact they were given first preference to opt in to the war.
Then the final place in the war was determined by contacting the MLs of the one-vote regions, and it was first in best dressed for that spot.

It's all in the name of good fun, Alan, go with it... No need to cause issues when there aren't issues...
Challenges can still occur between other regions...
And I don't quite understand how contacting the MLs of the "One Vote Regions" is unfair to those with two or more votes, would you care to explain this to us all?

My favorite author David Icke did a show in the Melbourne Convention Center earlier this year, on April 11th. I have a DVD of that show =)

Um... you're complaining about an announcement regarding the challenging of Melbourne, Australia, which is stated to be visible to members of both Saskatoon and Melbourne forums... with the ML for Melbourne posting... and you've only just realised a large number of people commenting are from Melbourne?
*posts drop bears*
No I didn't see David Icke in April. Actually, I can't really remember what I was doing in April. I think it was probably job applications. Oh well...
