Well, we have a chat server for our own use now. It is an IRC server with a web interface, for those who don't want to bother with using a full blown IRC client.

If you have an IRC client, click here: irc://linode.kydance.net/nanowrimo
Kydance.net is my business domain, and since the IRC server may see uses for my business as well, I figured I'd stick it there.
For those unfamiliar with IRC, once you log in through the web interface, all you really need to know is that to change your name from Guest?? to whatever you want, you just type '/nick '. For example, if you wanted your name to be Foobar, you would type '/nick Foobar'.

Something just went wrong with the server the IRC was running on, and it's down for the time being. I'll try to resurrect it this evening, but I don't know what has happened yet for sure.

I'm rebuilding the IRC system on the backup server today, so it should be available soon. I'll post as soon as it is. I apologize for the downtime on that. I'm really really frustrated with the server that it was on. It's been nothing but trouble so far this year.

Chat server back online! Web client will continue to work exactly as is. IRC host has changed however, so if you're using a 3rd part candidate change it to linode.kydance.net

vent is a voice chat server, kinda. It's a lot like voip, but more of a chat room than a phone call.
Are you getting any specific error messages from the IRC server? how are you trying to connect?

It just said loading applet, and hung there. i tried several times. Does it only support certain browsers? I tend to use opera, but I didn't think to just try it in IE8.

It was working, then today I went to show it off to somebody just to show him a nice chat room program, and it didn't work; wouldn't connect. Is it working again now? I see it is.
