Greetings fellow nano-ers! Lady V and I were chatting at the KOP and came upon a fantastic idea.

Let's have a games night! Board games, improvisational games, games that we make up on the spot just because they sound like fun, the possibilities are endless. And if you're like me, later this month you'll feel the need for a bit of stress-relieving distractions.

For this to work, we need to figure out a few things. One, who's interested? Two, any ideas on where we can hold said games night? I would happily offer my place but unfortunately it can hold a maximum of 10 people. Once we find a place we can start worrying about the time.

Let the games begin!
-Dani

The Pancake Manor in the city is open 24 hours and the Three Monkeys in West End is "open til late", though I'm not sure about capacity. I'm interested, but again, gripping...social...anxiety...

Mmm sounds like a good idea.

Have a game called 'Kill Doctor Lucky' that I finally got to play the first time the other week, it's rather fun and simple and I've been hankering for a chance to bust it out again.

If it happens after the 18th, I'm in - otherwise probably not.

Ohhh. Games are good. I'd check to see if I could offer my place (Or my parents), which is huge, with a pool, etc, but it's out near Beaudesert/Jimboomba. So don't know how many people want to drive that far.

Eitherway, I'm all for games. And will try make it to whatever is done. I don't know when I'll have free time, so I'm not gonna suggest days for peeps to do stuff - except later in the month, when we really need to relax. xD

Oh, I can bring Balderdash. That'd be awesome for a bunch of writers to play. xD

Definitely sounds appealing. Are you thinking of a private venue, or is it ok to go somewhere public? There's something very tantalising about the idea of strangers playing improvisation games in the Queen Street Hungry Jacks during the wee hours of a Sunday morning...

Ooooh, Id' be in on that. I have Scrabble! The ultimate improve your word power game - now I know the meaning of krabut. It's a bird:) You never know when something like that would come in handy.

I'd love to join in, but I have two major barriers.

1) I live in Logan and don't drive. Public transport to my house stops at about 6:30 - 7pm. This of course isn't a problem if we end up an all-night venue, 'cause then I can just wander along home in the morning when PT starts again.

2) Social anxiety. Speaks for itself, really.

I know that feeling. That's why I like the games - they mean I can hide my anxiety behind a "play face". :)

I'd be in on this if I could make it. Later in the month I'd definitely be able to make it, too.

O_O
I was unsure... but you have Settlers of Catan?!
Awesomeness. I haven't played that in years. I'll have to come even if it's just to play Settlers. ^^'

Everything is now finally planned - albiet loosely - to the very end.
Including a very serious incorporation of my dare and one hell of a climax. Hopefully. <3

All right, since the general consensus is that the games night should be later in the month, I'm going to suggest Saturday the 21st as a tentative date. Does that work for everyone?

I didn't really have a plan for a specific location. I think somehwere indoors would be a good idea, since then we don't need a backup plan if it rains. My preference would be at a house, but seeing as I can't really offer mine it depends if anyone has theirs available and is willing to have us over. If not, who'd be up for playing games in a park? Or, as was suggested, in Hungry Jacks?

Will let you know closer to the date whether or not anything is happening on the 21st. But so far, it works. :D

I would like to suggest a... Maccas instead of HJ. :P As I can't stand HJ.

P.S. Love your signature, Dani. :D

Hi all! Not sure if anyone remembers me, but I was around a little last year. I met a couple of people at a Bayside write-in. Never mind that. I'm not actually doing NaNo this year, for a variety of reasons, but I'm going to lead the Brisbane region cheer squad. *lol* If no one else has taken that position yet.

I'm totally up to coming for a games night, and lending my support and encouragement etc. Again, just depends on where it is. I have Apples to Apples that I will gladly bring and share.

That day works for me, I think.

The thing with going to a Hungry Jacks or McDonalds or whatever is would we all fit in there? x]

Would really rather not do Hungry Jacks or McDonalds :-/

How long is this event intended for? Are we talking all-night or...?

A park could be cool, or it could be really miserable. I'm not sure which is more likely.

I personally would prefer not to do the games night in a fast food joint either. We could plan it to happen in a park (Roma Street Parklands again?) and then have HJ/maccas as a back up plan if it's raining?

I think this would be a show up when you can, stay as long as you want kind of games night. If we're going to do this in a park, perhaps we should make it a picnic, so more of a games day. Start time 11:00, go to roughly dinner time or whenever everyone wanders off? BYO lunch?

Given confirmation that it's happening, where, and that there will be people there - certainly.

It seems that I'm not able to give confirmation of going to places very far in advance, but if I can make it then I'll be there for sure.

Unfortunately I will not be running the games night this weekend due to lack of people confirmed and lack of a place to work at. Plus I will now be working saturday, so I would probably be late to top it all off.

Sorry guys! Maybe someone can organize one next year.
