Day 1: I hate my main character and wish she would die

So---maybe kill her off and make her afterlife about seeking revenge on everyone who made her life suck. Or maybe everyone hates her and you write it in third person from all their perspectives--sort of a "Drowning Mona" type story. Loved that movie. The main character in that one was a not-so-likable lady. Everyone else thought she deserved to die. Maybe that's the best thing that could happen to your character. Just a thought.

My MC is a total douche. I don't know how i'm gonna live with him for a month, I just want to hit him.

Lol. Kill her, totally. Who really needs a MC anyway?

One of my main peeps is uber introspective. A little introspection is a good thing but she's somehow managed to "think" for about 1800 words now...she's on a plane right now...hmmm, might have to follow my own advice there.

My MC is surprisingly immature and depressing. She has an odd outlook on life (I have no idea what logic she uses) and she seems to think that none of her actions will have a consequence. Since when is she so annoying? o.o;

Okay so . . . My MC made me so freaking mad I deleted half of the third and second page because she was such a wimp. So I re-wrote her as a bit more of a tomboy so she wouldnt die in the first chapter! HAha!

Nicolas is a BABY!! Threw up twice and I'm only on chapter two! I cannot wait to until he is not about cry EVERY THREE SECONDS!!! I'm about to kill him off and turn the whole story about the hermit that turned him into a werewolf, but when he gets over the shock of of being a werewolf and just eating his abusive father he should stop whining....hopefully.

I feel your pain. Pretty much all my MC's are very unlikeable. It's fun sometimes to write about mean/horrible/ugh characters, but then othertimes you're like "shut the hell up and try acting nice!" It's hard, but it's working for the story, so there's nothing much I can do I guess :/

It's scary when you don't like your MC...because that usually means no one else will either. I have this problem a bit actually. I usually end up killing them so I don't have to deal with their crap. We, as writers, need to care about our characters, otherwise being stuck with them for 30 days will be pure hell.

I might have just killed my MC. I don't like her so some more characters are preparing themselves to enter the story.

My MC is a selfish brat who doesn't care how her family might feel when she runs away to sea... I swear she wasn't this selfish before November.

I have no idea why, but my MC just makes me want to drown her.....maybe I should, and just write as the villain from now on :P

I HATE my MMC from last year. Gods, he's such a d1^k to me. I'd have killed him off, but he's supposed to save the whole damn PLANET. Luckily, in my rewrite, he's being more reasonable.

As for my FMC this year, she's kind of whiny, but I just made her yesterday, so I don't know her that well. And she's a bit inconsistent because of this whole writing rush thing... I really gotta slow down a bit >>

Haha, a lot of people not getting along with their MCs :) My protagonists are almost always difficult and guilty of something.

I'm working with a ruthlessly ambitious documentary film maker who ruined a couple of peoples' lives with her 'art' and is now lapping up praise at film festivals whilst secretly slipping into depression and self-loathing. Couple that with a cantankerous 93 year old London lady with attitude who drinks, swears and thinks The Modern Woman is a shallow bitch who barely compares to the glamour of her youth as a 1930s stage starlet.

Happy days.

My MC got dumped in the first two pages, so she's kind of been on that wailing "the love of my life dumped me" thing for awhile now. I'm getting kind of sick of it, too. Glad to know I'm not the only one who's not too happy with the MC at the moment. I'm going to try to get her out of this slump with a rebound, though. Fun times. ;)

I know what you mean all of the sudden my main character is impossible to write, he's annoying, disgruntled and doesn't know what to do with himself. Plus I'm also worrying about writing from a guys POV and if I'm getting it right or not. I personally think that it is completely acceptable to kill your MC and focus on a much better character.

My MC is all emo and whiny about the bad breaks he's had recently. He somehow has it in his head that he SHOULD be depressed and despairing, but deep down he just can't sustain that kind of angst. So sometimes he catches himself enjoying life a little, and gives himself a mental slap upside the head.

I do love my MC, but it's the kind of love that's like, "I hate you, but you've been with me so long that I have to love you." She's just so immature right now, and she doesn't realize that her actions have consequences. I know that I'll redeem her over time, but it's difficult to write who she is at the beginning of the story.

Last year's MC ended up totally ruling my novel and pretty much my life. He'd wake me up at random times just to make me write :D

This year's MC is... pretty much keeping for himself. Doesn't bother me that much, and Write or Die has become my new best friend. I don't wish Rick would die, though. It would ruin all my novel. Completely.

Kill her off and suddenly you have a murder mystery!

My protagonist has been really depressed and feeling guilty as hell about surviving Katrina when so many other people lost so much. All she's been doing is working, volunteering for a house-building charity, and drinking.

I was going to kill her because she was getting repetitive, but she started acting like her old self again (I've written about her in three books before).

My MC was meant to be fighting with her family because she was strong willed, independent, and refused to live by their rules.

Instead, they are fighting because she is inexplicably pretending to be a slut.

My FMC is a whiny bitch. I'd like her a whole lot better if she didn't sound like Bella Swan. She's spent the entire first chapter whining about how crappy Oklahoma is and I really want to shut her up but instead I'm planning on killing off her awesome best friend. She's the narrator-- I can't kill her. Shame. I wanted to keep the friend.

Do it. Kill her. It might make your character more interesting if she died. Or atleast make her realize that she needs to straighten up. What am I talking about you can't make your main characters do anything!

Zackary's irritating me. He won't let me channel his thoughts and write. If he wasn't so damnably essential to the plot I'd kill him off and be done with it.

I celebrated the new NaNo year by naming a character after last years MC and then killing her off. It was extremely satisfying. On the other hand, a year is long ways away.

I wanted the main guy to be all sweet and sincere, but somehow he's taken his own way and became a cocky douche-bag who wants the girl to be into him and becomes embarrassed once something takes a wrong turn.
I wanted the main girl to be shy, but outgoing and nice once you knew her, but now she's sarcastic and seems to be into her college professor.

WHY MUST YOU CHANGE ON ME, CHARACTERS?!?! WHY?!?!

My MC is a stereotypical female MC. -_- I may kill her future boyfriend off just so she cries.

Well, at least it sounds like you all have some earthly idea who your main character is. I'm stumbling through this place I've invented, tipping my hat to characters here and there, and no one seems to be taking charge. It's as if they know that the title of Main Character will mean great misfortune. Granted, they've got reasons for thinking so, but come on, guys, somebody has to step up to the plate. ...maybe.
