I know it's a dumb question, but at the moment I cant really afford to buy a coffee every time I sit down in a coffee shop to write, and its too hectic at home to sit down and write with no interruptions. :/ Soo yeah.

I suppose it would depend on the venue; how big it is, how busy they are, how many seats are available. Some coffee shops around the island are pretty chill about people hanging around for extended periods of time. Though generally, being a business, they do expect one to buy a little something from time to time during the visit.

If you go to a group setting line Cine Express (which id highly recommend on any night but Tuesday for groups) they have the kind of seating that is meant for a large gathering. I imagine they won't single someone out of a group when it means everyone else will probably go along with them. That's only speculation though.

I'm assuming they won't, especially in a group where others are indeed purchasing beverages or food. This will be my 3rd year @ the Chapters Starbucks, and I've never seen anyone asked to leave for not being a good consumer. I've even seen folks eating food there that was clearly not purchased at the counter (ie in a Subway bag).
That said, it's probably still best to be discreet with whatever food or beverage you bring from home.

Probably if the entire group wasn't buying anything, they might comment. but as long as some amount of people are spending money I don't see a problem, especially if the place isn't full. I've never seen it happen, but each of these places are independently managed, so it's possible that if we try enough coffee shops, we'll eventually run into a pain-in-the-ass.
