Does anyoen else find themselves setting goals for their word count and then just not being able to force themself to sleep until it's completed. I can't believe I am sitting here at 5:37 am staring at the screen because I told myself I would get another 700 words done before bed so I would be at 15k.

I'm on a weird sleeping schedule at the momnt but I did the exact same thing yesterday, trying to get to my goal for the day. I guess forcing yourself to stay up till 3pm doesn't sound like a hassel but yesterday it was XD

I'm usually up until at least 3-4 am but by 5 am I am usually happily tucked away in my bed in the land of Nod. I wish I was right now. These last 500 words just don't seem to want to happen.

I'm just going for 2000 words a day, and I'm on target so far. *shrugs* Any more that I can do is great, but as long as I meet that, I'm happy. I don't believe in going all out and not sleeping properly.

I agree. If I force myself to write for long periods I just end up churning out rubbish. I do my writing first thing in the morning, when I feel refreshed and clear-headed. 2000 words a day is a comfortable goal for me too.

I wish I could stay up late and write. I'm a real owl and would rather be up half the night than drag myself out of bed early. Sadly with school age kids I can't do that anymore :( I slot in my writing after the kids are in bed, otherwise it comes out really disjointed and even more rubbish than normal.

I've got my word count at 2000 per day as well. Think I'll aim for 3000-5000 on Thursday though since I'm going away for the weekend.

I'm a night person myself. I try to get all my stuff done at night, or late afternoon It seems to work for me, providing I turn the tv off while writing. :)

I set myself a 5000 word target per day, it will most likely drop back to 2500 soon enough but because I have no computer at home and I'm in the library at uni most of the day I suppose there's no harm in using what I have :D

I'm a nanny when it comes to sleep. I live with chronic pain so by the end of the day I'm absolutely fragged and the brain just doesn't work. It's better if I have an early night and get up early in the morning to write. Staying up (unless I'm super hyped up), is just waste of time because I tend to write crap when I'm really tired.

I'm aiming to get up to 15k by friday as I'm spending the weekend at a friends house and I want enjoy my time and not spend the weekend worrying if I've done enough for a mellowpuff.. you know?

I was aiming for 2k a day because I wasn't sure if I could even do that, I was so scared. But now I know there's really nothing to be afraid of. I'm actually great at churning out worthless descriptions of houses and conversations that go nowhere to boost my word count! And even though I've come down with the bug from hell I'm aiming for 4k a day, 2 in the morning and 2 at night.

Although I will admit to staying up all hours the first night just to see how much I could do. That was a one-off though. I think everyone who reaches their own personal goals for the day should feel great no matter what their wordcount :)

I do the night owl thing on the weekends if I can, but I actually find I'm waking up super-early with "must reach that word count" on my brain so I'm doing most of my writing before work. And for someone who isn't a morning person I'm highly impressed. Amazing what a little motivation does!

I find that I set myself goals but then can't stop once I get to them.

Last night it was 8000 before midnight. I got to 8000 at about 12.15 but then i was in the middle of a good bit and ended up at over 8600 before i could stop.

Ditto. I am finding the 2000 words a day suits me. I'm in two different plays for fun, work full time, and its the best I can do in terms of writing. I've also found that I need thinking time as well to plan out the next scene or dialogue'
I can't believe how supportive watching everyone elses stats and postings is. At the moment I feel that with everyone's support I can reach the goal! Yeah

Get the numbers and the targets while you can - next week is when the bite starts, and the word counts flatten out. Make the most of the early rush!

I just managed to reach my daily quota and upload my word count JUST before midnight! *dances*

For me, NaNo is a great opportunity for me to finally get my butt in gear and just really get into the routine of writing. It is such a wonderful feeling.

Hooray! Me too, but my goal was a little smaller than yours. I'm just happy to be at 10,000 words because that means I'm still on track to 100,000 :D

Wow! Some of you are already done (nearly) It's the first week for chr!*t sake. I was real nervous going in, and I signed up for the young writers program, (I'm still at school) and set my word count goal for 3,500. But when I started, I found I was churning out 2000 a day easy (Yeah... I just procrastinate study for my exams in the afternoon.)

Thank you! *hug*

Well today has been pretty much an epic fail for me (although I know I still have a little over 5 hours until the day ends) not so much because I didn't get anywhere close to completing my daily quota of 10k but because my arms feel like they are just about to fall off and my wrists - especially my right one - really hurt. Eek!

D= Noes! I knew all this obsessive typing would catch up to me! *faints*

I don't really have much of a goal past writing everyday. I just write til I hit a natural end point and that's fine by me. I must admit, it's fun writing at work cos the guys really egg me on. I'm weird enough being the only girl, but to spend my breaks sitting at my desk writing just blows their mind. Plus it amuses them more I'm using write or die. They love when they see the screen turning red if they know I'm trying to think of the right word to fit. That's when they throw random words at me to see if I lose concentration lol.

I'm using a much friendlier programme called My Novel.biz. It has some cool features that allows me to add stuff I need in planning. Yes it cost me more than Write or Die, but I was scared of WOD, and happy with My Novel. It gives me a word count, is friendly to editors (No, I know that I should know better, but I don't)

As far as I'm aware it only eats words in Kamikaze Mode and possibly Evil? -not entirely sure of the former one. I myself go on the easier modes just to be on the safe side and it still meets the goal quote making me happy :)

I'm aiming for a 2000 words a day average, which should mean I don't get too badly behind (if things work out and I don't suddenly run out of novel half way through).

I write in the morning, so if I don't meet my wordcount in the hour before I get ready for college I just write throughout the day until I get there. I'm cringing at 2000 words a day and feeling like I'm going really slowly, but since I'm at 10k at the moment I must be averaging 2500 words a day. I am only aiming for 1666 so that I can be assured I won't lose this year.

Because of my back, I actually have to give myself a time-limit. If I don't reach my quota within the hour, I suck madly and will be miserable the entire day. Fortunately for me, I can do it! But once I hit an hour on the laptop I have to get off.

I love not writing at night xD Writing at 5am really suits me.

This is my first nanowrimo and I'm so pleased to be making my 1667 words per day. But how in the world do you guys churn out 10,000+ words in the first week?! Is there a special secret? Is it possible to do it and still sleep?

They don't have lives. They just sit on their computers all day typing madly. For those of us with other things to do, it's mind-boggling xD
