Forward: These write-ins are for anyone in the community doing NaNoWriMo, not just HCC students.

When:
Friday the 6th, 13th, and 20th from 3:30-7:00

Also, Thursday the 12th from 1:00-4:00. (This is a melded-together "Campus Write-In" event, so non-Wrimo students with any sort of writing will likely come and chill and write.)

(Any other time you want to stop in for a quiet place to write, we're open 8:00-7:30 M-Th, 8:00-1:00 F.)

Where:

Highline Community College Writing Center -- 2400 S. 240th St ~ Des Moines, WA 98198; Building 26, Room 319

Specifically, we're on the north-facing (parking-lot-facing) side of Building 26. If you go up the stairs on the north side of the building, you'll come out right at our door. You can call us at 206-878-3710, ext. 4364 if you need someone to talk you in.

Building 26 is circled in blue. In green, I circled both the actual location of visitor parking spots and also the little dirt road alongside the library building where visitors can parallel park if there's room. As a plus, that little dirt road leads straight up to the Writing Center. On Friday afternoons, there usually is room to park there. On Thursday during the daytime, parking is more of a hassle.

On Fridays, the five desktops we have in the Center can be open use. On Thursday, the Center will be open, so those desktops probably won't be free. We've got outlets everywhere, but you might bring power strips if you'd like.

Bring food if you'd like to :)

Any questions or anything, please respond!

Thanks for organizing this! I'll be at the Friday afternoon/evening ones. The #175 bus goes right by HCC, I can come in from work and be there for about the last 1 1/2 hours. My bus home starts at HCC so that's even better!! (Heading over to my Google calendar to add more write-ins, yea!)

I wanted to add that I, too, am an HCC student... but that's on hiatus right now. I've been going to HCC off and on since (gulp) September 1979. I'm hoping to finish my Medical Transcription program within the year and add two other programs under the Medical Assisting department too.

So I know well where building 26 is, lol!!

See y'all this Friday!

I'm so glad to see other HCC students interested :)

As an added note for current students, if your plot bunnies stop hopping as energetically, you can always sign up for a brainstorming session in the Writing Center. Many of the consultants are creative writers and all are great brainstormers. And you can use the space any time we're open if you don't have another writing nook to use.

From the the replies this has gotten, it looks like I may be youngest one that is contemplating attending this write-in. I was wondering if, for some wild reason, there was a minimum age-limit on this considering it's a community college and all. If not, you can believe that I'm pumped for this.

There are no age limits, so please come! We have Running Start high school students using the Writing Center and working here, too :)

I look like I'm sixteen if it makes you feel any better. ^_^

I hate to say this but I won't be able to make the first write-in tonight. I've been home sick all week with flu-like symptoms. I went to the doctor today, got meds, and went to work (I work in a call center in downtown Seattle). My boss there asked if I had a fever, I said, A teensy eensy one, why? so she asked me to go back home :(

I was really looking forward to this too! I'll definitely be there for the other two scheduled sessions on Fridays (13th, 20th). Hope y'all get cranking out lots and lots of words, we're NUMERO UNO EN EL MUNDO!! Huzzah (didn't know the Spanish word for 'Huzzah').

Here's hoping you feel better soon, write many words, and have a fabulous weekend!

If you're not sure which door to look for, by the way, I taped a picture of a rubber duck up to help you find it :) There are several 26-319s up here.
