I guess I'm starting this thread up again this year, but it's because I care so much... about beating all the other regions!

In Fun Stuff -> Word Count Scoreboard, you can see how much each region has written cumulatively and we've been in the top 10 pretty consistently every year yet somehow we keep getting beaten out by Seattle. And Maryland. And the entire countries of Germany and Austria!

Is this our year, Los Angeles? I think so.

Don't forget to set your "Home Region" to LA, which is different from setting your "My Regions" to LA. So you know, throw a stone, it'll probably hit a Starbucks or a Coffee Bean and go forth and write!

Yes!

Hi...I really appreciate your enthusiasm and, as a first time Nanoer, I was excited to see us (LA region) in the top 10 this morning (last night we were 12th). It's terrific that you have 10,000+ words already! I wish I could keep pace, but while I'd like to be number one collectively, I'm more about slow and steady wins the race, personally. I'm finding it difficult enough to maintain the stamina necessary to write my 1,667 daily word requirement. I feel that to push myself to go faster would make it completely no fun at all and would derail me from the task at hand (to get to 50,000 words by Nov 30th).

If you have any suggestions for making it easier to write more than 1700 words at a sitting, please let me know. Here's what I've been doing:
-write once a day
-write a minimum of 1667 words during these writing sessions (usually I hit about 1750 words). This seems to take me about 1.5 hours, after which I am completely DONE writing :D

Ok...I'd love to hear about your writing experience.
While I can't say that I'm setting a pace for the LA region, I feel like I am at least contributing to the cumulative total.

Wishing you continued enthusiasm.

Hee, my post is a tiny bit tongue-in-cheek, btw. I would love for us to be top of the score board but every year (that I've been here) we just don't quite make it. But it's fun to rally and encourage people to write more.

I'm way ahead this year then I was previous years and its mainly because my novel this year is being written under the principal of "anything goes."

Actual real writing tips though? I don't know, I skip around in my plot a lot, which really helps if I'm stuck in a scene or chapter that's never ending. And I write in quick bursts. It's easier for me to write 500 words and do something else then sit and force out 1600 at once.

Good luck everyone.

That's interesting Dream_Snail.

I just sat down and it started flowing. but now that I have a bunch written, I find myself jumping around as well. Closing little loops and even writing the ending and now going back. Hopefully I can keep up this energy and not burn out.

Hello there! I'm exhausted already, so I'm going to start pacing myself. Definitely do not race to the end. I'm not trying to win anything. I actually didn't know there was something to win. I just got off to a good start because I knew what I wanted to write with the first few chapters, and now I'm heading into uncertain territory. Still, I'm determined to finish a first draft this month, so I'll probably continue to write about 2000 words a day. It's going to be a long month.

Good luck! Keep me updated on your progress!

Darn Seattle-ites. They think they're so cool with their green everything. ;)

So, how are we gonna catch up with them, Angelenos?

My home region is LA but I am traveling all the way up to Seattle over the next week and will actually be attending their half-way all day write-in on the 25th ... maybe I can put tranquilizers in their coffee urn or something!
GO LA!

I'm going for so many words this year (when I realized I'd finish in a week, I decided to keep going) that I hope LA finishes number 1! I'm happy that we've held the number 5 position for so long, but it's time to move on up!

I usually break up my writing sessions. And I'm usually a zoomer... I get ahead early and then it's easier for me to relax near the end of the month. it's just been a really hard year so far.

I'm a teacher at the school where Melody Ross was murdered after the homecoming game.
On Friday we had a whole slew of cops again as there was a text going around about a potential shooting.
I'm in the process of buying a house... that was supposed to close Friday but now won't close for another 2 weeks.
I'm in two choirs and am taking two grad school classes (I've been so tempted to add in my word count for my paper on the evils of teacher merit pay).

It's been a roller coaster first week of Nano. I just can only hope things will get better as the month goes on. I hope to catch up today, and I'm seriously looking forward to 11/11 where I have a day off in the middle of the school week.

But this is also my 8th Nano Novel... so I'll be darned if I'm going to not finish this one!

Aww, omouse, everything sounds hectic and crazy! I know you can finish though!

And we're #4 now! I check the scoreboard when my plot slows down and dies. We just beat out Holland and Belgium. Yes! We're pretty far behind Maryland but I know we can pass them!

Keep writing!
