Just wanted to pop in and say hello. I've started pretty late in the game so hopefully I can get on the ball and start writing. Anyone have any good tips for starting out?

Greetings!

My only advice would be to just go and do it. When I write, I sometimes get bogged down on how horrible a writer I am. These negative thoughts make me very sad, but then I tell myself, "Hey! You can do this! So just... shut up and do it!" That usually works for me =]

There's a great essay by Ann LaMott called "Shi**y First Drafts" you can google it. It has helped me and others I know through the dark thoughts our minds seem to conjure up when we think we can write for a second. It's hilarious and brilliant. In the end it says to me to turn off the negative voice and write one thing at a time, or as she calls it, Bird by Bird (the name of her book of essays on writing).

YOU CAN DO IT!
