I decided on Sunday (i.e. Nov 1) that I should do nanowrimo this year, but I moved on Thursday (i.e. Oct 29) and still haven't had time to start. In fact, I don't have even the vaguest idea of a plot. Or a main character. Or a genre. So I have zero words and am vastly behind. Once I get started I think I can catch up, but I need a push... anyone have a quick story-starter suggestion?

1. aliens from pluto come to earth and demand that pluto regain it's planetary status.

2. romance novel: a zombie that is trying to subsist on animal brains instead of human brains falls in love with a vegan animal rights activist and hijinks ensue

3. Second Life avatars take on a life of their own, develop software called "Get a First Life" (this website exists, btw) and take control of their humans and make them interact with real people.

4. smurfs are real. they live in the NYC sewer system, but have decided they want to feel the sun on their face again and take over flushing meadows park.

5. miss piggy gets in a tizzy over the whole "swine flu" thing, recruits the other muppets, and takes on the CDC.

6. US military versus invading aliens that look like puppies. who are the bad guys? who will save the day?

7. a virus is unleashed in nyc that makes everyone infected happy. and nice to strangers. is this a good thing for the US or a bad thing? you decide.

8. write a choose your own adventure for adults ( i fully intend to get back to this idea one day). every time you get stuck, just go back to where you weren't stuck and write a new set of choices.

9. your MC travels to the future and screws something up. then a later-in-the-future version of the MC travels back to now to kick his/her/its butt, but travels too far back and ends up attacking a grandparent. deal with the time travel paradox.

10. superman and lois lane have kids (don't ask me how she survives, that's why it's called FICTION). the kid starts kindergarten. yup, madness ensues. bulllies, kidnappings, you can do all sorts of stuff with that one. kittens stuck up in a tree.

11. a paranoid government conspiracist type is right: (about the conspiracy of your choice). what happens if other people start to believe, too?

hope these help. i didn't know if you had a genre preference, so i just wrote down the first few things that popped into my sleep-deprived brain. and now, back to work!

a political thriller where a presidential candidate named Edward Johns has an affair with the woman who was hired to ghost write his biography, but he manages to keep it hidden, with the complicity of his wife, until after he's won the presidential nomination. His opponent, who had been thought to have no chance of winning, is an extreme right wing nutcase. When his chief of staff, who is the brother of the chairman of the DNC, finds out, he realizes that at such a late date, allowing this information to come out would be disastrous for the country. So he sets in motion a series of assassination squads and hush money to suppress the story, and it spirals out of control

A love triangle between a terminally ill woman, her surgeon, and a necrophiliac mortician.

I like the one about the terminally ill woman and her necrophiliac mortician. Let's see what I can do with it... Thanks!

Good luck with the one you chose, that's a very clever plot.

Actually laughed out loud, just a little though.

Cornbread, I just have to say that all your suggestions are AWESOME. If my novel wasn't cooking with gas (which thank god it is) I would steal one of yours!

Holy crap is this a good idea! I only just started my novel today and this sounds like a technique I'll be using if I get stuck. You're pretty much awesome!
