How do you find each other at these events? I am a complete newbie to this, but I want to try. I started late, and figure I will have to write about 1900 words a day to meet the goal. Last night ended with about 1600 words, so it might be done.

I was going to ask the same thing in the Southbay thread.

I guess we should just go around the B&N looking for a group of people furiously typing away?

Hey guys!

Generally, whoever is hosting/planning the write-in or event you are going to is responsible for making sure other Wrimos know where the group is. Usually they'll be wearing a NaNoWriMo shirt, or have some other indicator of NaNoWriMo-iness.

And yes, worst case: find the group of people typing like there ain't no tomorrow!

Good luck and hope you enjoy the write-ins :)

Was anyone at this particular write-in?

I went to the Barnes and Noble write-in at 6 PM and looked around in the coffee section, but I didn't see any one person or group that looked like they were Wrimos. Didn't have the guts to go from table to table asking, "Are you writing a novel?" I grabbed a table for myself and spent an hour and half trying to write and occasionally glancing around, but I seemed to be alone.

If there were others there, I missed them!

Same here. Most of the people I saw with laptops had books open and papers out and looked like they were studying. I looked around for a NaNoWriMo shirt or some other sign of novel writing but didn't see anything.

So I just sat in the coffee area of the bookstore with a peppermint mocha from about 6:30-9:00 and worked on my own. Which was probably for the best since I have a sore throat and didn't want to give anyone the plague.

I will probably try and make it to some of the other write-ins next week. This weekend I have to put my novel on hold and finish an overdue history paper on Cyrano de Bergerac.
