Hi,

I'm a British Lit, Comparative Mythology, and Speculative Fiction teacher at Altus High School. I am presently reading a fantasy novel written by one my students, with which I am quite impressed.

Would you be willing to meet her via email? I'll talk to her tomorrow and ask her permission to send you her email if you're interested.

She's entering her novel in a writing contest. I've tried to get her interested in NaNoWriMo for students.

Hope you are well.

Take care,
Larry Mike Garmon

Sure, I'd love to talk to her by email and the likes. =)
And I'm sure she'd really enjoy the challenge/excitment of writing for the NaNoWriMo...
Good luck to her in the contest.

Sadly I am no longer a teen however I was quite active in literature when I was a student. I was my English teacher's prodigy you could say. Entered many writing competitions anywhere from essays to poetry. I'm only 22. Sometimes I miss being a teenager...then I remember homework :). When you're young your imagination knows no bounds. Write on and encourage your generation to join NaNoWriMo!

Hey! I am writing in Mustang. I occasionally have English projects I have to write for where I give them one of my stories. I try to go for a creepy, dark vibe and I tend to get it.

Hi,

As an English teacher and a creative writing teacher, let me advise you to stay away from the "Twilight Syndrome" whereby nearly all my students are blinded by Meyer's pedestrian prose and metrosexual vampires who could not frighten their way out of a wet paper bag.

(I know, I'm stepping on some sacred teenage-angst toes here.)

Dark, creepy vibe is good, very good. But make it YOUR dark, creepy vibe and not merely an imitation of the mundane-du-jour. Remember, "Imitation is suicide."

If you're going to imitate to learn, imitate Poe, Bierce, Shakespeare, Lovecraft, Maupassant, and Hawthorne.

We are all born unique, but we spend the rest of our lives trying to be like others to fit in, and so we die in a haze of mediocrity, which is an anathema to our unique births.

I gotta agree with Talewright. Don't get me wrong I adore Twilight, they don't seem like they were meant to be frightening so much as impossible romance with the occasional 'grr I'm a dangerous vampire' moment. Poe, Shakespeare and Hawthorne, gotta love them. It doesn't get much darker than Poe. If you want more modern dark John Saul is a pretty good read as well. Just remember, writing is like fashion, make yours and make it work. This coming from a girls point of view :)

My 11 year old is participating in Young NaNo. I have a 15 year old niece participating, but she's in Woodward. Have you tried checking with your English teachers?

I'm from Norman, and I can honestly say that I'm having a blast with this.
I don't write very much, usualy only for school assingments and the like, but apparently everyone thinks that writing is my talant or something. My friend got me to join the competion and I've been on a creative splurge since.

So yeah. Norman writer here. HI THERE PEOPLES. OwO

Wow, 23,746 words, and I thought I was doing good with 13,000. You're definitely on a splurge Notor lol. Best of a luck and let the creativity flow!

Best of luck to you as well! :D

It's pretty easy to let the creative juices flow when your character is flying an airplane and shooting missiles at an enormouse ocean crab that won't stop screeching while an annoying weapons guidance system tutorial lady called Karen wont shut up in the background. I'm loving this so much. X3

What kind of insane antics are *your* characters getting into, people of Norman Nano?

Wow lol gotta hand it to you, you're certainly creative. I read your synopsis and I'm impressed. You have an incredible imagination. I'm not from the Norman area but I've been there a dozen times from when I was in high school what with the college holding half the high school competitions in the state lol. Not sure about crazy antics but my story is certainly starting to heat up. Definitely has a major adult nature to it.

I read your synopisis as well. It sounds like a plot you could draw out, with dozens of little plot twists and turns everywhere. Luck to you and all of that jazz. X3

As for crazy antics, my MC tried to save a little delusional boy from his own crazed images of the doctors he was running from. I'm not sure how to lead to the next dream challenge now that Beech has been sedated a taken back to his hospital room. :P
