The novel I'm writing is called Cry U.N.C.L.E. It's about 2 high school girlffriends who used to play the man from U.N.C.L.E. when they were in 7th grade, now at their 30th high school reunion, they discover that one of their classmates is an international criminal and they're recruited by the "real" U.N.C.L.E. to bring him down. It has blackmail, and sex, and politics and all kinds of really great stuff and of course sexy agents, even in their 50's!
My HS girlfriend and I really did play spies way back when that show was popular. I even had a "secret room" in my basement and we did come up with the plot while I was sitting on her back porch in CT in 2001, talking about our upcoming 30th reunion!
Taken me all this time to put together the plot, outline and get it going and NANOW is certainly helping a LOT! Can't wait to have this story out there!
Then, I'll have to get permission of the owner's of the name to be able to use it, but since it's not an official U.N.C.L.E. story, not using the characters from the show, or anything, I don't think I'll have that hard of a time. But I got the theme song on my ipod for inspiration.

I, too, enjoy taking characters from books, movies, television, etc. and plopping them into stories. Sometimes it's fan fic, I guess, if I keep them in their same setting, etc. but sometimes I just borrow characters and mix them into a different setting altogether. I don't write things like that with a view to publish, just to have fun. Since I junked my TV three years ago, my entertainment these days is mostly listening to old time radio shows via the internet. So my novel this year involves mixing two unrelated OTR shows together to see what comes out. I just enjoy doing it.
Have fun with your novel. I do remember "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." but I wasn't allowed to watch it. My mom didn't like for us to watch spy shows... I guess she thought they were too sexy or too violent for grade schoolers. (Am I a bit younger than you? I just turned 50 in October. I also remember she wouldn't let us watch Batman because of all the "KAPOW"ing that went on.) But I remember that I thought one of the characters on the U.N.C.L.E. show was cute. Wasn't there one who had really light blond hair, almost white? Or am I thinking of a different show?

Hmm, not sure if this actually went someplace or disappeared into cyberspace because I hit some button by mistake (thanks to the dog in my lap!) Anyway, I can remember being in 6th or 7th grade and playing something similar with my friends only we'd be running through the Great Swamp in NJ trying evade our enemies. It was great fun and it makes me sad to think most kids to play much like that any more!
Good luck with your story!

How could you forget Ilya Kuriyakin? (I might have butchered the spelling there a bit.) He was the best thing about the show! I think David McCallum was the actor.

The actor who played Kuriakin (David McCallum) was in a mini-series called Mother Love with Diana Rigg on Mystery! a few years back. All the threads are coming toghether in that one....

He now plays the medical examiner on NCIS and yes, he was definitely worth watching U.N.C.L.E. for!

And I was probably the only one who had a huge posted of Napoleon Solo stuck on my canopy bed. Always liked the dark and mysterious. AOL is replaying episodes on-line. They're as good as ever, very formula, which they were at the time, but I never missed an episode.
