Hello everyone,

Week one of our beloved NaNoWriMo is now in it's final countdown and I just thought that I would come by and see how everyone feels they are doing after almost seven days of hardcore novelling.

So far we have had three write ins (Brisbane Central; Brisbane South and Sunshine Coast) with another one (Gold Coast) going on even as we speak. I really hope that those of you who attended write ins found them to be at least somewhat productive and if you haven't had the chance to attend one yet, never fear, there are still many more to come. The first being tomorrow 8th of November at The Coffee Club Milton from 11am.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to back up their novels off site or though their email addresses as often as possible. You never know when a computer glitch will jump out from behind a stack of magazines and deliever a death blow to potential best sellers.

Finally, I have checked the Word Count score board for all regions and Brisbane is coming 48th, which at this stage of the game is better than we finished overall last year. However we are being lead by Melbourne (14th position), New Zealand (23rd position) and Sydney (26th position) so don't forget to update that word count religiously and hopefully we can jump up a few positions.

Now, I will stop waffling on and let you all give us an update on your progress.

Happy Novelling,
Rach

PS. Don't forget that you can also donate to NaNoWriMo through your MLs at Write Ins and the TGIO party.

Wow, has it only been a week? I've been running around so much I hardly know which way is up. So many write-ins! But it's all good. :)

I usually like to get ahead during the first week of NaNo - takes some of the pressure off as the second and third weeks stretch out before me. This time around, I'm a little ahead, though not as much as I'd like. Going to put in some concentrated time this afternoon (when I'm done posting here!) and see if I can bump myself up a day or two.

Overall, going okay, and hoping to settle into a proper groove over the next week.

How about everyone else?

Well... ah. I don't really know how I'm going actually.
I think what I'm doing now is all the planning and research I would otherwise have done before the month had actually started.
... Although I don't think I would have necessarily realised Pip had to be straight until I started writing him. Ditto for my murderer being... erm. Not my normal kind of murderer. Ach.

I think I'm doing alright though. Finally planning things. Hopefully this is the last time I'll have to completely revamp everything about my slowly emerging novel.
Ah. Good luck, Georgia.
By the way though, Miss Rachel, I'm terribly impressed to see your word count! Rather blown away. *One-person Mexican wave*
I'm rather amazed by the fact that you guys can even keep up - let alone get ahead - with all your ML duties going on.

----------

Everything is now finally planned - albiet loosely - to the very end.
Including a very serious incorporation of my dare and one hell of a climax. Hopefully. <3

I'm choofing along, tracking usually just slightly ahead of the daily word-count. I decided I was going to do it slow and steady this year (as I did last year) and give myself some time to indulge my compulsive inner editor, instead of just leaving scenes I hate scattered behind me like snow tossed up from an out-of-control toboggan.

I bought myslef a big monitor yesterday (23" Asus LCD for $225 - I love GoComp) and have been running it off my EeePC in extended desktop mode. This has allowed me to have the yWriter main screen on the EeePC screen and whatever scene I'm working on in the mega-huge monitor screen. This... hasn't actually been good for my productivity, but I'm the happiest girl in the world.

Meanwhile, of the key events of the book, being an engagement, a wedding, the conception of a baby, the birth of a baby, an abduction, a war, and an escape, I've managed... the first. This book is going to be considerably longer than 50k. At this stage I'm not even sure if I'll get Part 1(of 3) done in 50k. *facepalm*

I have a blurb (not very good) and an excerpt (unedited) up in my profile. :) Forgive the silly ye olde English. It helps me to write the dialogue like that. Later, I'll go back and make it less silly.

Yep, similar story with me. I've had nothing to do all week, but do you think that helped me get lots of writing done? Nup. I had hoped to hit 15000 by today to get a good start on it all, but... nup.

Uh, yes, Nano. Yes. That. Erm, going excellent. Very excellent. And awesome. I have refrained from posting my wordcount because the dog ate my homework. Or something. Actually, haven't seen the dog lately, maybe the homework ate it. Anyway, yes. Yeah...

*copies and pastes the forum posts into novel* Dialogue...what? Doesn't everyone do that?

Personally, I'm stoked with the way I'm going. I've hit 10k, and if I can get 2000 or so today, I'll be on my way, to picking up the 1200 words I'm behind on, easily.
I've now officially beaten 2007's word count, and I'm nowhere near as bored with NaNo as I was this time last year. Also, this time last year, I had barely anything done, so I'm going strong, and I'll be picking up a few loose word counts along the way.

I'm kinda out of steam. Exams are here and insisting I study, or at least insist that I don't write anything. Plotholes and being stuck in a scene that really needs to end but ... bluh ... aren't helping. General week 2ness settling in.

OTOH, I don't consider failure to be a serious possibility, so that's nice.

I seem to be powering along pretty well- despite the writing pothole I fell into on Saturday, I seem to be able to find things to write every day and have resisted the massive urge to delete long, rambling, inarticulate passages (of which there seem to be many!). Here's hoping I can keep up the momentum next week!

I started on track. I definitely planned to stay on track. But somewhere between the irregular hours of my ew job, the stress of trying to figure out how much I'd make this week compared to how much I need to make, and an impromptu night out that left me comatose for most of saturday, I've ended up way behind.

New strategy: 2000 words per day until the weekend. Then a whole weekend dedicated to writing. God help me.

I'm on track. I've decided I have to make the most of the write-ins as the hours for my job are pretty long and by the time I get home I'm too tired to do any work. I think I made the most of it today with a 10k+ effort, and I'm hoping to hit the 20,000 mark by the next write in. Small goals, I just need to write another 2,000 words before Saturday and that's doable even with my time restrictions. I guess the plus side is, if I hit my sales targets this week nice and early, I might not have to work a Friday or Saturday. We'll see how things go.

Essentially I feel as though my motivation is up and I'm at a good medium between work and writing.

I should be able to finish my first NaNo this year being the busiest I've ever been during November in the last 3 years.

07 - Uni Holidays
08 - Japan; only a few classes a day
09 - Working full time; 7:30am to 6pm.

Yup, it's odd how it works like that.

Sorry I couldn't make it today, I got caught up doing other things, and then I got some visitors and it just went to hell in a handbasket. O well, maybe next week.

I have aimed this year to try to hit 100k in a month, I've had some story issues, and my main character has changed from being a journalist to being a pirate over the course of the novel. (I'm going with the stream of consciousness approach where things can just change at the end of a chapter. :P

I'm ahead of my target by almost a day's worth of writing at the moment. I would like to thank my sponsors, my workplace, which has been really quiet lately, so I can write at work while pretending to do proper work. :P I reluctantly gave up a good hour of writing I could've got in by going to a meeting, but I think I actually made a good contribution to that, so it wasn't all bad.
