Moderator Note: this is part III. View the past discussion on Part I and Part II

It's a little weird. It's a little strange. It's definitely lots of crazy. But weird and strange and crazy are all hardly out of place for NaNoWriMo. And for some of us in the "I Hate Myself and Want to Die/NaNoWriMo Ate My Soul" veterans, it's almost a tradition (FIVE years this year, sporkers!).

It's the Sporks! Tissues! Chocolates! Sporkfetti! Postzillas! Woobies! Sporkage-on-demand! and of course, (((HUGS))). It's the NaNo Spork Room (thread), and we're BACK!

So, come on in, throw your troublesome Inner Critic/Inner Editor/misbehaving plots and characters into the Spork Pit, grab a spork of your choice (custom sporks and spork upgrades are available!) and we'll have a sporky massacre. *evil grin*

And no matter what, it's always okay to cry in here. Bawl, stomp, wail, get it all out, grab a tissue and blow. Then have a whole room-full of these: ((((hugs))))

Because you can do this! By spork, you can!

Spork on!

====================

Some FAQs:
What IS a spork?
Simply: it's a fork + spoon. :-) Have an extensive look here (Wiki Warning!), complete with a picture of a TITANIUM spork.

WHY a spork?
The combined spoon-fork=spork is a versatile choice of weapon: Three--sometimes more/less-- points at the end offer great satisfication for those inclined to jab-jab-JAB-STAB-POKE! * their annoying writing entities.

Its wide concave surface is perfect for those moments when you take a deep breath, collect your pent up frustrations/anger/etc, and let it rip as you swing the wide part at your literary foes! WHAP! SMACK! FWAP!Inverted, the convex curve is also suitable for scooping or 'herding' the writing entities (or otherwise) where you want them.

And lastly, when holding spork, strong and true and proud, .. it's been reported that somehow-- someway-- people can't resist to smile.

WHAT is a woobie?
/wuob-EE/ From the Greek Woobinus. -noun. Plural: woobies.

Any sort of snuggly something that offers comfort during times of stress. Made famous in the 1983 movie "Mr. Mom" starring Michael Keaton and Teri Gar. Often refers to a blanket that a child cannot part with under any circumstances. [Origin: bee_girl]

WHAT is a postzilla?
Sometimes the Sporky Force is strong, and it moves sporkers to take a little time and effort to sit down and reply to a long list of sporkers before him/her in one massive sporktastic post. Not required, especially when you're trying to beat out a a 1.6K words daily, but many have reported awesome writing vibes and karma for trying it out, at least once ;)

Okay, this is the last thing I said before the other thread got closed.

*hugs* for lastcrazyhorn! Oh, I feel you, girl, that was me on Wednesday... curled up in my bed in the fetal position, humming in a moan-y sort of way to try to concentrate on something else and relax... yeah. A heat pack and three ibuprofen helped eventually. So you have my deepest sympathies.

I'm still a whole day ahead, so I'm happy. Gotta go to rehearal, though, so no postzilla - but I send you all love!

Thanks! I finally just turned on the shower and sat in the tub, curled up in a ball, for an hour or so . . . ah, and this is my life.

BTW, I already posted this on the nanoisms thread, but I thought you all should see it too.

Okay, this is actually what I wanted to say and even how I wanted to say it . . . it's just a little over the top ridiculous in its own right:

Quote:
And since he was not thinking about that, and he couldn’t seem to get his brain to think on any other subjects—certainly not with any kind of reliability—his only recourse was to simply drift away into the place he had gone, so to speak, during the time that he was pointedly not thinking of.

That's like the cutest smiley I think I've ever seen.

And we're gonna get re-stickied soon too; I already checked.

You know it was me that got us stickied in the first place, 3 years ago?

Welcomes. Have an awesome IE (Inner Editor) Spork. And over there, *points* - is the sporky pit of doom for casting your unwanted characters, parents and otherwise annoying IEs and IPs (Inner Procrastinators) into. :D

*stabs the visiting relations with a spork*
Then goes back and does it again.

I'm in a bad mood. *brandishes spork with emphasis*

My word count is excellent -- at the moment. I've got a good word rivalry going with MercOne. ::HOLLA!!!::
She rocks the motivation...which means she consistently surpasses my word count and all I hear is the self satisfied laughter she makes as she passes me by. Grrrr...without her, though, I wouldn't be at the number I am... I'm currently ahead of her...not by much, was hoping to leave her with only dust to eat....

and then today -- my story is as still as the waters, I just wrote about.

*Pokes self with spork*

On top of that -- I now have this nagging concern that that I'm not sure I have enough plot to get to 50,000.

Sigh.

My head hurts.
Word rivalry aside, I'm beyond Frustrated for reasons that children should not read about...

*Plops down on the couch with a huff* I"m willing to spork something . *Eyes those visiting relations again....*

Will spork for chocolate.

Wow, there goes another thread. Lol. We'll probably set a record for most threads blown up. NaNoWriMo has officially eaten my soul. It's been nibbling away at it for a while, but now it's totally gone. =/ Case in point: I forgot to go to this stupid mentor/mentee meeting for my French class. I was assigned a mentor from a higher French class and we're supposed to get together (there's a small group of us) and do stuff pertaining to French (like watch a movie, ect.) and there are four dates and we're supposed to go to three of them. I skipped the first one figuring I could go to the other three. But then I totally forgot the second one! I was so stressed out about school work and NaNoWriMo that I just totally forgot about it! I'm really stressed so chances are I'll forget about the other two as well. The next one is on Monday and I have a test in my Japan and the West class on Wednesday so I'm going to need Monday to study. And Tuesday. How am I gonna make this work?!

Good news: I got my short short story written in one day (Friday) so that's good. But my Japan and the West professor uncancelled class Monday because he was sick Wednesday so we can go over the material we were supposed to cover on Wednesday so we can take the test the same day. Instead of, say, pushing the test back like any reasonable person would do, he uncancells class and is making us come on Monday. So no day off there. =(

Will you please spork my inner editor? *hands over a neatly wrapped packet of chocolate cookies* He's never got on my nerves before, and this is my fifth year of NaNo. And all of a sudden, he's playing up. So please... *ties up inner editor and hands to thegreatwhitewolf* (is that from the Geralt books by the way?) Do with him what you like. I'll pick up his remains in December!

*Sigh* After doing well on thursday and actually hitting my 2k goal, I only got in 1k yesterday even though I had PLENTY of time to write. I could've caught up, yesterday, and I didn't. So now I'm hovering around 6k, meaning I have to just about double my word count to catch up.

I also have something really weird going on with my right pointer finger. There's a bit of it that decided to randomly be swollen, last night. It's in the very tip, but the tip of my finger isn't swollen, it starts down about a fingerwidth and then stops at the first bend in the finger. It's a bit sore, but only if I press on it (aka, typing doesn't hurt). It's really weird. :(

*spork!!* that goes to the evil-eyed troll sitting across the way, who somehow has the luxury of spending half an hour at a time casting her eye and copious commentary on all the work I COULD be doing. This, mind you, WHILE I am busting MY hindquarters doing MY work of a higher priority!
*evil grin*
there's a little bit of her in all of my bad guys. :P
so I don't get to do much more than go /muffled "GRR!" when Comfy_Denim (/shoutout!) passes my word count at work. Except be glad I splurged on a very fast pen and use up all the note paper I so conscientiously made by recycling the half-sheets of the printouts I have to make.

So long as there's sporking . . . . *offers up her Muse* The witch is actually WITHOLDING plot from me until I conceed the FMC's name is fine as it is, when it CAN'T be that particular name due to her SO's name / likeness to another (not-mine) character with the same name.

Add in a craptastic day yesterday that SHOULD have been all mine to write, and you hath one vastly annoyed me. *growls*

Alright, I just set a lofty goal for myself. To hit 12k by midnight. As you can see, I'm at 6.5k right now, so that means basically doubling my word count. I know I can get 1k in an hour if I get going, so I'll be doing 1k and then breaking for a bit, rinse and repeat. Hopefully I actually get there.... I really want to be caught up!

Many sporks will be appreciated, I'm almost to the first death scene, as well. x_o

So I hit 16k yesterday. My goal was to hit 15, so I was thrilled. I start work in... forty five minutes, and then I'm going to come home and try and get to around 18k, at least. I have to juggle writing and study for the next few days though.

*sigh* I really hate exams. I have a math exam tomorrow, a literature exam Tuesday and on Wednesday a psychology one.

woot! another thread exploded. I'm behind "my" word goal. I only wrote 200 or so words yesterday instead of 2000. boooo. I wanted to be at 12,000 yesterday and 14,000 today. I don't see it happening. *whimpers*

yay for all of you with word count goodness!

Hi guys! Hope everyone's Saturday is going well. I am finally home (it's 5 pm here), just had some pizza, and I'm ready to...
hm. Well I need to clean. But also to write. Decisions, decisions. :D Perhaps I'll write 500 words and then clean, and repeat.

Also, I'm doing a postzilla from the start of the new thread on, so if I missed your posts on the old thread, I am so sorry. Just bonk me on the nose.

lastcrazyhorn- Hope those cramps go away soon! And a belated thanks for getting us stickied...that's so helpful!

nickjgrl95 Welcome! I am also a girl :D Throw any distractions you want in the fiery pit, and grab a spork while you're at it...they come in very handy.

ComfyDenim- Oh no bad mood! *sporks bad mood* Motivation is awesome, I'm glad you've found someone who challenges you. I am sure you've got enough plot to reach 50,000 and I don't even know what your story is about. But I know there are always things to write about! *offers pain pills for headache*
Also I am quite sympathetic to frustrations, whatever they may be, but if children should not read about them, I am sure I am sympathetic to them!
*offers chocolate by the ton*

thegreatwhitewolf- NaNo is so good for nibbling up souls. You can do this! *sporks wolf's schedule* Stupid professors. Don't they know they're always supposed to push tests back, not cause havoc? Grrr.

Madrynea *Helps with sporking of IE* Listen here, IE, you are banished! Begone from these realms until December! No no, don't look at me like that, you are gone! *kicks*

senkatnovo- But you are doing so well! Hm, that isn't good with your finger! It's possible you bruised a bone, which can hurt pretty badly, but clears up fairly quickly. Lots of ice and good wishes to you! I offer you many sporks and lots of luck on your writing challenge!

MercOne *SPORKS* with you! Yay for good pens! And YAY YAY YAY for your awesome word count!

Rune_Traverse- Muse...you listen here *spork spork* You give Rune some plot RIGHT NOW. *Sporks again*
*hugs Rune_Traverse*

herlilKB- You can do this! I know you can! Lots of luck to you! Your word count is just flying.

Susanne: Thanks. He is the first professor I've had who hasn't pushed back a test due to a missed day of class. ALL the other professors I've had in my 2 1/2 years here at school have always pushed the test back if a day was missed. Grr. *sporks professor*

I've hardly written anything today. I've been so busy trying to keep up with my homework. *sporks homework* It doesn't help that my sex scene keeps stalling. *sporks characters* Move the plot along! Now!!

Susanne - Me too. So far they aren't and I've taken 3 naps as a result. I also have developed this massive canker sore in the bottom of my mouth under my tongue that I'm sure is related to the stress of everything.

Urgh.

You're welcome. :)

Well, as for me, I'm headed towards 15K, but my progress has slowed down in part to everything above, and in part b/c the next bit is hugely important to the plot and I want to at least get it mostly right. If you like, here's my last bit:

Quote:
“You can’t mean to tell me that your relatives didn’t notice you running away mid-conversation all summer—just so you could vomit up blood???”

At his accusation, the teen leapt to his feet, an angry expression on his face.

Severus stood as well, but a great deal more gracefully.

“No they didn’t, sir,” the young man said, running his hands through his shoulder length hair.

“Let’s say that you’re telling the truth,” Severus said, his anger still growing. “If so, why didn’t the great Harry Potter feel the need to enlighten them!?? You certainly have no problem speaking up—or back—to me.”

Two spots of pink appeared on Potter’s thin cheeks, but he kept his mouth shut.

Severus needed to know what was going on, so he could do something to fix the problem and get on with his evening.

“Didn’t the great Harry Potter feel that he deserved top quality medical treatment???” He accused, pointing his finger towards the increasingly upset young man before him.

His student flinched at the pointing finger, but held his ground; the determination not fading one iota from his hard green eyes.

“If I don’t deserve food, then I can’t see quite how I deserve medical care,” Potter finally answered him in a low gravelly voice that Severus had to strain to hear properly.

“What are you talking about???” Severus demanded, crossing his arms over his chest to hide his sudden confusion.

Potter stepped forwards and stood directly chest to chest with him. The top of the teen’s head only met his chin, so he was forced to look down into those angry green eyes.

“If I don’t deserve food, then I can hardly deserve medical treatment.” The teen said, speaking very deliberately between clenched teeth.

“You are being ridiculously dramatic. Of course you deserve food,” Severus exclaimed back to him, his eyes glinting dangerously in the low light of the dungeon hallway.

Potter barked a laugh against him.

“I only serve one purpose for my uncle. Want to see?” Potter asked him in a far more bitter voice than he had ever heard come from the boy’s lips.

No, he did not want to see.

However, the choice was taken from him as Potter slowly slid down to his knees, and touched his fingers to the front of Severus’s pants.

NO.

“What are you doing!?” Severus demanded in a hoarse and choked voice; frozen to the spot at the sight of his student on his knees in front of him.

“My job,” Potter replied, pulling the zipper of Severus’s black pants down.

Severus’s paralysis broke and he grabbed the front of the boy’s robes and pulled him up to his eye level.

“I could have you expelled for this,” he threatened, his mind still reeling with the implications of what the teenager had been about to do.

“And then I go back to doing the same thing I was doing before you stopped me,” was the choked reply.

Severus finally remembered that the boy was still shorter than him, and he stiffly lowered the teen back down to the ground in return. He released his hold with a snarl, while reaching down with his other hand to zip his pants up.

“You need to be seen by Madam Pomfrey,” Severus said in a low voice, choosing not to focus any more on the situation until he had a calming drought—or two—well circulating in his overwrought system.

It won't happen, most likely.

Susanne: Thanks! My finger is feeling slightly better, and a bit less swollen. I find it odd that it doesn't particularly hurt, though. Speaking of cleaning, I was going to try and do some of that this weekend... hmm. Well, there's always tomorrow!

thegreatwhitewolf: That sucks about the test, pushing it forward really makes no sense! At least you got some warning instead of having it thrown at you monday?

lastcrazyhorn: Congrats on nearly 15k! I haven't read any HP fic in a while, yours sounds quite intriguing. :)

Alex Collins: Happy birthday! And 30k is awesome, even if you don't make your goal. Don't give up! Go out and have a drink. ;)

I've reached nearly 8.5k, and am breaking for dinner now. Theoretically I had wanted to be at 9k by now, but had to do some research and plot work and fell behind. Going to a local coffee shop / used book store with my boy later tonight, though, so hopefully I can step it up there without the distractions of my apartment (namely dirty room, internet, and kitties)!

30K.

My birthday. I'm 25.

I'd really like to be at 40K by tonight.

It won't happen, most likely.

Damn it all to hell.

Happy birthday. In the US, you can now rent a car on your own. Congrats.

I'm 25 as well. It appears that I'm about 7 months older than you (my birthday is April 6).

Could be worse. You could be having hideous, mind/body breaking cramps like me.

senkatnovo - Thanks!!! :D I'm a pretty new fanfic writer - I've got a work in progress that I started back in May of this year that I'm up to about 140K on and still not done. :) This nano is #2 and is taking a bit of a different approach than that one.

Good on you! 8.5 is great. Eating is likewise great. :D If you don't take care of yourself, you can't write at all.

I've written small bits of fic, nothing really long and all marauders-era. Last year I had an EPIC plotbunny involving Remus and Sirius being basically sucked into a book of ancient mythology and gallivanting around with gods and messing with things like the Trojan horse. Needless to say, I haven't written it. ^^;;

*giggles*

I could see Sirius really being in his element in that situation.

Last year I got really overstressed and started imagining that Snape was following me around, admonishing me for things like not standing up straight or going to bed on time.

Oddly enough, it was kind of nice . . .

senkatnovo: Actually, what happened was that the test was scheduled for this coming Wednesday. The professor cancelled class on Monday because of individual art reviews for art majors (I have no idea what that entails since I am not an art major), but he got sick last Wednesday so he decided that instead of keeping the class cancelled on Monday and pushing the test back, he's uncancelling class so we have to meet that day and the test is still on Wednesday. So the test day didn't move. Does that make sense? I fail at explaining. He's just making us meet on Monday so we can go over the stuff we were supposed to go over before so the test can be held on Wednesday. Instead of just making it simpler by keeping class cancelled and moving the test back.

Alex Collins: Happy birthday! At least you're ahead. Way ahead *points to own word count* I'm way behind. I'm supposed to be at 11K, but I'm only at 9K. *sighs*

The forums are eating my soul as well it seems. =/ The good news is though that I got past the sex scene at last. Now let's see if I can get the plot moving again...

*sporks plot*
