Hi there,

If you have experience with Cattle stations or writing about the Outback then I'd love to meet you. These two areas have been on my mind a lot lately. Anyway, I'd love a buddy to cross reference the occassional fact with and I'd also be helpful and supportive anyway I can. :-)

Cheers,
Linny

If you've got a particular area in mind, you better ask for someone with experience / knowledge of that area as the way they operate can very a lot between areas due to the local terrain, vegetation, and average rainfall. A property from western NSW doesn't work the same as one from north western Queensland or northern SA or northern WA. I've been on a few over the years, and all are different. Also, the era concerned makes a difference as well. Most of my knowledge is well out of date and fairly faded, as well as being very limited, so you're better off with someone else's brain to pick.

Thanks for the tip Deadly Ernest The type of cattle station I'm specifically interested in would be in north western Queensland and set in current times.

Having said that, it's not a pre-requisite as far as potential writing buddies. Always like to meet a variety of people from different backgrounds.

Hi Linny-p,

I lived on cattle and sheep stations in western Qld in the early 90s if that helps. I was a governess for a few years, and a jillaroo for a year too. Plus my ex was/ is a stockman and we lived on stations together, and I used to visit him on stations during my holidays. I wrote a short story about one of my experiences when I was a jllaroo once. One day I'll write more about that time (but probably fictionalised - to protect the innocent! lol)

Would you like to tell me more about your novel? And what sort of things would you like to know? I might be able to help, but I might not. But happy to try, regardless.

I'm writing a 'bush' sort of novel too. Mine is YA (probably) about a kangaroo. Sort of a 'watership down' meets the Australian bush (I wish!)

Cheers,
Robyn

Hi Robyn,

I'll drop you a message with more details but thanks so much for responding and offering to help. I really just have some minor/mundane details that I'd like confirmed and don't plan to waste too much of your time. Anyway, I wasn't too hopeful but your past experience sounds ideal! I've also been interested in having a buddy who is writing novel settled in the bush so this is great. ;-)

Cheers,
Linny
