I'm thinking about putting together a write in for all of us with nothing better to do on thanksgiving. It's probably best to do this in some kind of place that is open on Thanksgiving and doesn't mind us lingering around, hopefully getting close to 50k words (such as a coffee shop, 24 hour diner, pool hall, etc.)

Pressure Billiards is open regular hours on Thanksgiving.

Would anyone else be interested in this?
If so, does anyone have any suggestions where we could do this?

I am definitely interested in this, as I kinda plan on staying in Chicago instead of visiting family for Thanksgiving. If only a few people are interested, I was actually thinking of having a Thanksgiving potluck/all-day write-in at my apartment, because it's all cozy and quiet here, and by then I'll be tired of surviving by eating café food (and too broke to continue to do so anyway). But if there is one, wherever it be, I shall come! That is, if the CTA will get me there.

So here's my idea.

My roommate will be out of state on Thanksgiving and is fine with me inviting people over. I live on 35th and Wallace.

I have an NES that needs playing, and there's nothing more fun than playing Mario with company, yes? I'm very willing to host a Thanksgiving pot-luck/write-in/NES marathon, should people be in on it.

How it would be productive for writing? Well, to be able to play a game, you'll have to write so many words first. I'm fine with it being an all day thing, starting from whenever people want to get here. Is anyone else interested?

If you are, let me know! Please?

Oh wow, that sounds like so much fun! I was going to drive to Missouri to visit my dad for Thanksgiving, but I just started a new job and I can't take enough time off to make the drive, spend a reasonable amount of time with my dad to justify said drive, and drive all the way back. So it looks like I'm staying in the city. I'm pretty sure my job is closed on Thanksgiving itself, but I'll double check when I go in today and let you know for sure if I'll be coming. This is such a great idea! Plus you live super close to me so that's a huge plus.

I was planning on staying home and my roommate has invited a few people over for food n'stuff but you live really close to me too, so I'll plan on stopping by.

Also, please note that I encourage the bringing of food. It's great to see that there's interest! This makes me happy!

I tend to be really scared of crowds, even small ones ((AdventureAddict could tell you all about how I acted at her graduation party, lol)), but I really don't have anywhere to go on Thanksgiving, and you're one of the few people I know in this city, so I might come. I'd pretty much just have to find a way to not be scared of the number of people coming. Hope it's not *too* many, lol. I won't know anybody but you... so... yeah... *shyness warning* :P

I might have some trouble with food, but I'll see what I can do. I may be able to pull something together at the last minute. I don't like being the only one not bringing anything, even if everyone else decides it's okay. :P We'll see what happens, and I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the idea though, and I wish you luck. ;)

Take care, and have a nice day!

Melissa, if it comes down to it, you can come over early and help me cook things!

Anyone have any suggestions time-wise? I don't mind if people start showing up at ten o'clock, personally, and staying until they feel like leaving. I'm open to suggestions, though. I'd feel really awkward being ready that early and no one coming by for several hours.

YES, I WILL BE ATTENDING!

Would you prefer I make a side dish or a dessert? And is anyone who knows they are coming allergic to anything that I should be aware of? I live with people who have aweful allergies so I figured I would check.

I'm vegetarian. I won't be making anything with meat. If y'all want turkey, someone else will have to get on that. I will be providing green bean casserole, some vegetables, mashed potatoes (the instant kind, unless someone else wants to make the real deal) and vegetarian gravy, and cookies. If I'm ambitious, (which I likely won't be, but I never know) I might make a pumpkin pie.

Bring whatever you want. Really. In fact, it might be helpful if everyone who is coming can RSVP with that food they're bringing so we don't get lots of one dish. Food allergies, too. Those are important.

Hey, sorry I took so long to get around to responding. I'd be happy to come over early and help you cook. I'm not a vegetarian anymore, but I was raised one, so I do know how to cook vegetarian. ;) How vegetarian are you, anyway? Do you just not eat meat, or do you go all the way and avoid all animal products? I can accommodate both just fine.

As for time, I can be over at pretty much any time past eight o'clock, though if I come THAT early, I might be begging you for breakfast as well. :P Whatever you prefer. I'd be happy to help you make things like pumpkin pie and whatnot if you wish. I haven't prepared a Thanksgiving dinner in years since my mom likes to do it, but it shouldn't be too hard to pick it up again.

Anyway, let me know what you'd prefer, and I'll do my best to meet your expectations. Thanks again for providing this, and I'll see you on Thanksgiving if not before. ;)

Take care, and have a nice day!

Melissa
