Do you use some modern time things in your fantasy world?

I'm more of a new writer, and I was wondering if anyone used things from our own normal world. For instance, in my fantasy story, the main character asks her favorite book. Would it be strange if I had her say a book from the real world? (Something by Kurt Vonnegut or Emily Bronte.) Or would that take away from the fantasy of it all? Does that make sense? haha.
