Nikki and Jacqui and I are going to try another write-in at Santos-Dumont in Wilton. Or maybe it's Milford. I'm not sure where the town line is. ;-) In any case, it's going to be on Monday the 24th from 11-1, or 11 till whenever we decide to leave.

A Write-In at the Portsmouth Tea Company or Breaking New Grounds on Saturday?

Hey everyone!

My boyfriend and I have been going out as often as possible to local cafes to write. There are always a plethora of people with laptops, but I'm always too shy to ask if one of them is doing NaNoWriMo, because if they're not, they'll probably look at me like I'm an idiot.

Anyway, after my knitting group at Cafe on the Corner on Saturday ends (somewhere between 2 and 3) we always go to Breaking New Grounds to write, unfortunately, it's always really busy there and sometimes hard to get a table.

However, the Portsmouth Tea Company Cafe in Somersworth (across from Market Basket) is still new, so they haven't built up a huge clientele, which means plenty of room for a big group of writers. Also the owner is really nice and encouraging, and great at recommending yummy teas!
If anyone is interested in meeting up, we would love to meet some new writers in the area! (Oh, we could also meet up on a Sunday if anyone preferred.)

Twin State Word War -- Official Thread

It's war!

The third annual Word War between Vermont and New Hampshire rages again in 2008. Of the two states sharing the Connecticut River as a border, only one can claim the title of Twin State Word War Winner!

Here's how it works. Wrimos from Vermont and New Hampshire join Nanowrimo and attempt to write 50,000 words in 30 days. When bored with their plots, the aforementioned Wrimos procrastinate by writing (good-natured) trash talk in the official Word War thread (that's this thread!).

On two dates, Kass, our official Word War counter will post the current counts in two categories:

-- Total Words
-- And Average Words per Wrimo

These two dates will be Nov 22 (to give us an idea of where we stand), and -- for the final counting -- Dec 1st. The current numbers look like this:

Total Words: New Hampshire 4,020,158 Vermont 2,516,715
Average Words Per Wrimo: New Hampshire: 16,891 Vermont 17,004

At the moment, the Word War is tied... NH has the upper hand in total words, but Vermont is ahead by a nose in the average category.

If I know the Wrimos of NH and VT, however, I know nobody can live with a tie. So there will be a TIE-BREAKING category. If the Word War is deadlocked on Dec 1 (like it is now), the tie-breaker will be Total Dollars Donated to Nanowrimo by Wrimos of Vermont and New Hampshire.

Currently, the donation count looks like this:

In United States dollars... New Hampshire $225 and Vermont $500.

Let the Word War (and the trash-talking) begin!!!!

Wasted an hour, blast it all.

I got so derailed by some of the things life keeps chucking at me along the way that I just wasted an hour procrastinating.

I had so many problems come my way that I didn't even get started until wedns night and then it was a measly 2.5K

I got 5.5k done last night and have 2k on my list as done tonight. I need to get at least 4000 more tonight to meet the pace I'm trying to set.

I hope to be able to get 6k tomorrow and dream of 8k on sunday.

But I'm tripped up by the fact that I'm having to rely on the computer labs at the school since I don't have a functional one at the apartment.

I need to get up towards 50k by midweek If I plan to make it through to 100k (two novels) by months end.

Blast it. If all these problems hadn't come along I'd be in a good place to shoot for my third story idea also getting done by months end.

Why must you constantly test me world, why can't you just accept that Nano is sacred and must not be interfered with.

Blast and tarnation. I'm off.

My #@#$%&* laptop died last night!

Argh!!! Yes, I do have everything backed up. It gets backed up automatically to an external drive every night so I could restore it--- if I had something to restore it TO! Working with tech support today, trying to figure it out. Worse comes to worse, I can continue on this old desktop, but it means reinstalling the software and all that annoying crap! I'e pretty much lost 2 full days now..... :'-(

Oh, you know you have to be curious about other people's characters. You know you're saying 'oy, wot's that word count up to?' or 'I feel a little overwhelmed by this...what are other people doing about theirs?'

So put your out here and make comments about other peoples! I mean, what's NaNo without a character?

So, simply out of curiosity, what makes yoursso unique? What makes them stand out from the crowd, if anything? Who are they like from the movies, other books, webcomics, anything?

Don't be shy, I'm sure none of us will bite. ^^

So... I want to know if anyone else here has gotten any writing-related injuries due to Nano.. like me and my dumb carpal tunnel in my writing wrist! =[ I haven't been able to write at all tis whole weekend... and my parents are preventing me from doing it. How am I writing this write now? One-handed.... taking me like five minutes to write something I could write in 1.

Okay so can anyone relate??

Nashua Area Kick-Off-Get-Together & Write-Ins

Hey!

I apologize for lack of leadership this year. People seem to be doing a great job of arranging write-ins and finding each other in general - so perhaps just having an ML hovering in the background if needed is sufficing.

I haven't made plans for a big "Kick-Off" bash, but I would like to invite anyone interested to join me at "Star Bucks" in the Barnes & Noble Book Store, Nashua: Thursday night, October 30th - 7:00p.m. until 9:00p.m. (Or until closing if anyone wants to hang out that long!)

I look forward to seeing "Old" (figuratively of course) faces and meeting some new ones. We can share lessons learned from previous years and give each other tips for maintaining our sanity. While you're there I'd like to know if you're interested in attending write-ins, and what would work for you schedule-wise.

I found myself completely apathetic and stuck with my initial idea. I got about 1600 words and fell into "Well what happens next?" quicksand. I had a place I wanted to get TO, but no idea how to actually write a novel up to that point so it would make sense. So I threw out that bad beginning and started something else. I wrote over 2000 words in one sitting and only came up for air because I ran out of cocoa.

I wonder if anybody else has had a similar adventure yet.

Since I have Adobe Photoshop and didn't feel like writing anymore for the day, I made myself a cover for the book, mainly because that there was an option to upload one.

Has anyone else done this?

Hey!

I'm dropping out of this year's NaNoWrimo. I apologize for not doing what an ML should be doing this year. Everyone seems to be communicating well though. People are getting together. The SeaCoast is in good hands and for most of you this isn't a new experience. You're old hands!

So I wish everyone a minimum of 50,000 words. I wish you all pride in what you accomplish - even if you don't finish in time. Keep working. Give yourself an extension; a personal deadline - and then meet it!

I think NaNoWriMo is a great experience. I've learned a lot about the process of writing and met a lot of awesome people through doing it. I wish the same for all of you!

I'm TitusYorick (you'll get my real name if you're interested and you have the right credentials) and I want to try to get a writer's workshop together. If there's anyone remotely interested in the idea, let me know 'cause I'd really like to meet other people that have imaginations as vast and borderless as mine. I'll be checking in on this post every now and again in the next few days and if no one's responded by then, I'll probably abandon the idea. Even one or two people to start off with would be nice.

We're working at getting together a kick-off at Santos-Dumont in Milford. Santos-Dumont was purchased by new owners 3 days ago and they haven't figured out what they're doing hours-wise yet. Normally they aren't planning being open past 6:00 in the evening during the Winter, but the new owner, Maureen, said that if I'd let her know the date, time and number of people they could expect that they might be able to work something out.

If you would like to attend please reply to this link. We need to know a.s.a.p so that we can present the details to Maureen. It would be good for them and good for us! The other Kick-off is in the Nashua B&N on the 30th. My thoughts are that Thursday the 30th would be the best night for one at Santos-Dumont also. Possibly 6:00 to 8:00? Somewhere around there? Any input is welcome! Why not save yourself a trip and get to know people in the same area who may be able to set up write-ins with you as well?

Due to finally finding people I went to school with that I wanted to reconnect with, and that I couldn't print up any notes due to my printer not being reconnected to my computer after getting a new computer desk, I quit on day 2 with no words written.

I quit last year with two weeks, and 38,140 words to go. And I really am not upset despite being originally anxious about beating my word count last year. I was going to try to add 4,625 words (minimum) to the same story in a complete rewrite.

Okay, so I live in concord, but since I'm currently working a SNHU, I spend most of my time down here in Manchester. That being said, I thought there should be a forum for those of us in the area to maybe post about write-in, meet-up, word-downs,whatever ya want to call'ems. I'm good with just about anywhere thanks to my nifty GPS (My mom used to tell me I could get lost in a paper bag even if you gave me flashlight to find my way out!).
