[STICKY] Word War Rules

For those of you taking part in the regional word war this year, here are the rules:

Eligibility

You must live within the UK or Ireland, and be relatively close to the city or region you wish to represent.

Sign-ups

Your ML will provide a "Word War Sign Up” thread on your local forum to track word count. Participants will post ONCE in the Word War Sign Up thread by 8pm on 10th November stating that they wish to participate.

The Regional Word War

You must update your word count every two days, on the even numbered days of the month, by 8pm. If you are unable to update your count, contact your ML.

During the last partial week (26th –– 29th Nov), you must update your word count daily, by 8pm. If this isn't possible, contact your ML immediately.

If you do not update your word count on four consecutive occasions it will be assumed that you have given up and you will be removed from the war (unless you already have more than 50k) If you know that you’re going to be away and won’t be able to update, let your ML know so that we can prevent this.

You must input your final (verified) word count by midnight on 30th November. After midnight, you will no longer be able to update your count.

Scoring

You may drop out of the Regional Word War at any time up to 8pm on 20th November without affecting your region's count. If you do not drop out by messaging either myself or your ML, you will be in for the remainder of the competition, NO MATTER WHAT!
During the Regional Word War there will be a regularly updated leader board on an external web site.

Only the official word count from the "Word War Sign Up" threads on the NaNoWriMo web site will be considered when computing the final score.
After midnight on 30th November, Loriba will ask the other MLs from competing regions (or their designated representatives) to verify the figures before declaring a winner.

Results

There will be two prizes:
The city/region with the highest average word count.
The city/region with the highest proportion of winners from the starting participants.
The MLs will compare results, and when all regions agree, the results will be posted on the NaNo boards.

Banter

Participants are encouraged to engage in good natured banter with participants from other regions in the various Word War Banter threads. Banter should remain good natured and within the bounds of good sportsmanship. The use of 'smileys' in messages is actively encouraged.

Our God-like powers

MLs decide what "good sportsmanship" means.
We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.

MLs are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

UEA/Norwich Write-ins

Hi everyone,

The information about the write-ins is getting lost in the other UEA/Norwich thread.

Those of us at the meet-up have tentatively decided on Wednesdays and then Saturday and/or Sunday. I would love input from everyone for times, and hopefully this weekend we can have some set places for the rest of the month.

Please suggest other days if they work better, and let's decide on a time and place!

Just ten more writing days, people. Can you believe it? Just ten more!

Nanowrimo has not been that great for me this year. I have already had 3 days of no writing at all, and I am not in love with my story. Every day I sit down to write feels like a chore, and it shouldn't. But I can't help it. My story sucks, and I'm trying to change it bit by bit every day to try and turn it into something I might end up falling in love with, but so far, no luck.

But... and this is the strange part... I think this is why it is going so 'well'. Well in the sense that I have already reached the 50,000 words, like previous years. Well in the sense that I am pacing myself, taking the time to think about what I am writing, planning more as I go along. I am hopeful that this year, my actual story will be finished by the time I reach the 50,000 or maybe it will just take a few hundred more words, not a ten or twenty thousand more.

There have not been any crazy detours, no tricks to boost up my word count, nothing like that. And now that I am working on the laptop rather than the main PC, I can lean back in the pillows instead of sitting on a stool that is slightly too high for the desk, leaving me with major back pains.

It's all good. I will survive Nanowrimo, and the story will too for a change. Just ten more days!

Cornwall Nano Meet!

Okay, I know there's a Cornwall thread..but all of us are lazy and are not replying to that, so I'm putting a new one up in hope of getting your attention.

That time of year is rapidly drawing near, when all of us crazy people (some crazier than others) decide to write insane amounts of words and burn through the computer keyboard. And, of course, we should all meet up so that we can at least know that we're not alone as Cornish people who can actually write :p

Now, I personally would find the second or third Saturdays of November easiest, being a college student and having other things to do in November as well as writing, and Truro often seems to be the best place to meet up, as we're coming from all over the County.

If anyone has any suggestions or wants to actually come to a meet, feel free to yell in this thread. I have blackmail on a lot of you, so I will know if you don't get in contact.

Keep up the writing everyone :) *munches belated breakfast*. So did most of you stay up to write at midnight or where you like me, who collapsed to bed well before then, then got up and wrote before breakfast? How's it going for you so far? I think mine's going okay but I'm still rather worried about getting it up to the needed amount of words- I don't want to make it snail's pace but aren't sure if what I've written so far is a little fast paced for the novel, really. I already have three scenes done just to get it over the 1600 mark. Eep. Hopefully it'll be fine.
