Description: I don't know if I ever described her in the book but now shes: Blond Hair, Light blue doe eyes,Skinny figure, Great Curves almost like an hour glass but her hips curve a little more and her chest curves a little more, Usually wears a denim mini skirt and her closet consists of Metro Station, Paramore,Guns and Roses, Def Leppard, Plain White T's, Boys Like Girls, and Family Force 5 concert rocker T's.Oh yeah, and she's a vampire.

Family Status: Her parents were killed in a crash and she thought her brother was but two years later she finds out her brother is very much alive. I would like to see if anyone is interested in a Write-In on Friday, the 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. Also known as Black Friday. I'm flexible about time and place. I don't know if people need to get back to work or what. So would evening or afternoon, (or even morning,) be best? The tri-county Panera would be good, or the Bruegger's Bagels in Clifton, since people are going there. So, if you're interested, post your ideas please!

I'm psyched that I hit 50 K, but know I have a lot of work left, since I'm only on Chapter 11 out of a 21 Chapter outline.

Still, it feels good to have a Nano win under my belt. I certainly never would have come this far this fast without the Nano deadline pushing at me.

I know there’s a write in this afternoon in Cinci, but I had to get out of the house this morning and try the last shop on my list, Bean Haus in Covington’s Mainstrasse. This is Not the old Scribbles, which is now defunct. It’s a lovely 2 story building with ample seating, outlets, and on the second floor, no piped in music And a nice conference room. Reasonable coffee and pastries, 50 cent refills. Also plenty of old house atmosphere for my struggling ghost story. And free wifi, so Write or Die users will be happy.

Good place for a write-in next year. This concludes the hobgoblinn guide to Northern KY coffeehouses.

Next year— hobgoblinn’s guide to Irish pubs in which one can write a novel. You know. Like James Joyce. Only maybe making more sense. Or perhaps not.

Just poking my head in here. :) I did NaNoWriMo with the Cincinnati group (Hi Sherry! Hi Bardi! Hi Emily!) a few years ago. Now I'm in Philadelphia.

The Philly ML posted a link over in our forum to a free web application called Write or Die that sounds way cool and may be of help to those who feel they're falling behind on the word count.

Write or Die is a web application that encourages writing by punishing the tendency to avoid writing. Start typing in the box. As long as you keep typing, you're fine, but once you stop typing, you have a grace period of a certain number of seconds and then there are consequences.

Consequences:

* Gentle Mode: A certain amount of time after you stop writing, a box will pop up, gently reminding you to continue writing.
* Normal Mode: If you persistently avoid writing, you will be played a most unpleasant sound. The sound will stop if and only if you continue to write.
* Kamikaze Mode: Keep Writing or Your Work Will Unwrite Itself

I haven't tried it out yet, but plan on doing so later on tonight. I'll tell you though... no matter how desperate I am to write, I will never ever ever use kamikaze mode. That ain't cool. :)

Alas, dear friends, I have reached the end of my journey with you.

I do not really have an excuse. I wanted this so bad, and it makes me think, long and hard, whether or not writing is in my future.

I plan on trying again next year. Maybe better results.

I'd be interested in meeting folks in the Kenwood area or in the Clifton area. There's a Panera just off of the I-71 exit at Montgomery if folks are interested, and there's a Bruegger's on Clifton Ave between Ludlow and Good Sam...anyone game?

Hey all... I know we're all spread out across Greater Cincinnati and everyone has their own scheduling issues to deal with; the Saturday afternoon meetups don't work for everyone. If you would like to have a write-in at a time or location that's not currently offered, please feel free to let me know and I'll add it to the calendar.

In order to ensure that I have a chance to get it posted, let me know at least 24 hours ahead of time. Also, try to arrange a time where you'll be there for at least two hours so other wrimos can meet up with you, grab some coffee, and get some writing done before it's time to pack up.

And if you have access to a power strip, it might be a good idea to bring it along. We've had a TON of people showing up, and outlets are often at a premium. (We had three of them strung together yesterday at Caribou to accommodate the gigantic group of people that showed up!)

Post your impromptu write-ins here and/or shoot me a NaNoMail, and I'll do my best to fill up the calendar!

I just checked out a new venue, and I will be back. Reality Tuesday on Dixie Highway in Park Hills.

Their website seems to have some coding errors, and they close an hour early in the winter months: http://www.realitytuescafe.com/

But they have reasonable stuff, lots of outlets and a variety of seating choices, and they're open late enough to do a weeknight write in. And the music is not loud enough to be obnoxious if you want to use headphones.

I'm planning to try a Covington coffee house in Mainstrasse-- I think it's the location of the old Scribbles, but it's now called Bean Haus. http://www.beanhaus.com/

Looks like they have so many varieties you could easily procrastinate for hours trying to pick a drink. I'll let you guys know. And message me if you'd like to meet up for a weeknight write in somewhere. I'll be at the Cincinnati one on Friday if I am well by then.

Thoughts on Midway Day

Yes, I know we haven't even started writing, but I'd like to get some input about Midway Day before things get too hectic around here.

(Midway Day, for those of you who are giving your computer a puzzled look, is a halfway-there social outing. It's just another opportunity to meet up with your fellow Wrimos face to face and do something that doesn't involve frantically pounding away at keyboards.)

In the past, we've gone out to dinner. A few years ago, we went to Dave and Busters and followed up dinner with a few rounds of zombie killing, skee ball, and trivia games. (I have a lovely plasma lamp that cost entirely too many credits from that evening.)

So what would everyone like to do this year? Since the 15th falls during a weekend this year, we could plan something on either Saturday evening or Sunday. We could get together for lunch or dinner somewhere or we could do something different. I was thinking we could possibly get together in a park somewhere; that way eveyone would be welcome to bring their families. (Of course, if the always unpredictable Cincinnati weather doesn't cooperate, we might end up standing around in sub zero weather....)

Since we have such a diverse range of ages, I'd like to make it something that doesn't require an ID. We'll save barhopping for another night, OK?

Any thoughts?

NaNo Chat Room and Virtual Write-Ins

I've set up a chat room for the Cincinnati Wrimos to use during November. The address is http://www.chatzy.com/121512636991. The chat runs on JavaScript, so it doesn't require any client installation or registration. (I figured using this site would be easier than trying to accomodate 20 billion IM services.)

We tried chat last year, and it failed miserably due to two reasons:

1.) There was never anyone in the room. In an effort to alleviate that problem, I've set up virtual write-in times on Wednesday nights from 7:00 - 9:00. Please feel free to stop in and share your progress with everyone! We'll probably run a word war or two during this time, just to keep those word counts skyrocketing!

The room will be available throughout the month 24/7. (Like the Anchor Grill, we may doze, but we never close!) If you're able to make any of the write-ins (traditional or virtual), please feel free to schedule meet ups your fellow Wrimos!

2.) Last year, the message alert tool was crap. If you were doing something besides obsessively watching chat (like... oh, I don't know... working on your novel or something), you had no way of knowing if anyone else had entered the room.

It appears this problem has been fixed. If you're running the chat room in the background while you're typing out your daily word count, I'd recommend setting the message alert to "notify by sound."

The Events Calendar is Up!

The Cincinnati region's NaNoWriMo calendar has finally been posted. So far, I've only got the kick-off and Saturday write-ins scheduled; there will most likely be more write-ins added, as well as the Thank God It's Over party in December. My lovely and talented co-ML bardiphouka will most likely be hosting a weekly write-in at Highland Coffee House, and some of you have voiced an interest in outlining / brainstorming sessions. As soon as those dates are finalized, they be added to the calendar as well. More details on the scheduled dates will be filled in as we get closer to the starting block.

The calendar will eventually be embedded on the region's page; for now, there's a link on the page above the forum topics. The write-ins are scheduled in several different parts of town, so hopefully most writers will be able to find an event near them.

The fun starts in less than 26 days. Are you ready to write like there's no tomorrow?

Sorry about the lateness in creating this thread. I've been MIA since Wednesday night due to some nasty tummy troubles, and spent most of yesterday curled up in the fetal position on the couch.

Tomorrow's write-in is at Caribou Coffee in Anderson Township, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. The address is 7500 Beechmont Avenue, in the Anderson Towne Center. (That's the old Beechmont Mall location, for those of you who might be old and easily confused as I am.)

Here are directions to the mall itself if you need them. Caribou Coffee is located near the parking lot, next to GameStop.

Here, as promised, is my review of the various coffee places I've found on my side of the River. Think I'll head to the Mammoth in Newport today and see what it's like this morning, before the official Cinci Write in at 2 at Caribou in Anderson. If you have others you know about, add them to the thread and I'll try them out. I've got a Scrivener page devoted to this, so I'll have it for reference next year.

Jean Robert’s Greenup St. Cafe 308 Greenup St (old Wildflour)
Weekdays and Saturday mornings (hours 7-9:30 most days) are best times to visit while writing. Not tons of electrical outlets or space (may be more room upstairs?) But Nanos welcome, Great coffee and scones. Sunday brunch is Packed— writers more welcome other times. Park down by the riverfront park and walk back.

Brewberry Coffee Co, Dixie Hwy and Orphanage Rd
Nice space, not crowded. Music a little loud but mellow. Very welcoming. Bonbonnerie Scones—’nuf said.

Hours: 6-11 most days I think.
Where everybody knows my name. Small and cozy for a chain. Walking distance to my house.

Starbucks Crestview Hills
Hours 6-11 most days, I think.
Typical chain, music too loud for headphones.

Hours 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 7 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Sunday.

I wrote here for 9 hours (afternoon to close) on a Saturday last year after spending the morning at the library doing the same. Tasty sandwiches and free refills on coffee.

Spent last night of Nano there with a fellow Wrimo last year, but they were closed election night, though their hours of operation clearly stated they should be open, both on the door and on their web site. I’ll try again on a Fri or Sat night and see if they’re defunct. It was a nice place for coffee, or adult beverages, and their menu was more extensive than your typical pastries and sandwiches (since it’s also a bar and music venue.)
