Excerpt: The Medallion of Death

Rayenn heard silent footsteps coming into the stables, which echoed loudly in her head. The humanoid seemed to carefully plan its way, trying to avoid waking up any animals. These animals did not seem to have noticed the intruder; at least not yet. The only other sounds besides the foot steps were Rayenn’s own breathing and the beating of her heart, but those seemed far too loud to her. The intruder would hear those sounds, probably having acute hearing, and she would be caught and taken back to the orphanage. Well, running was no option either really, so she laid still and tried to calm her breathing and heart beats as much as possible.
