Excerpt: Damming

If one of the children playing tag and eating cotton candy on the shores of the Scituate Reservoir had looked over to the water on that pretty day in September, they would have been surprised to see all twenty seven row boats being maneuvered in a variety of patterns known only to the rowers. The row boats had been specially rented for the event and the nine hundred seventy nine people that had reported come to celebrate today were all taking advantage of it. The lines by the row boat rental shack had become so long that Mrs. Mildred Murphy, the self-appointed coordinator of row boat rentals, had asked the other Reservoir Anniversary Day committee members to send her more helpers. It seemed as though the little maps of the reservoir which Mrs. Murphy had commissioned her grandson to draw were big hits, and everyone attending the festival wanted to see if they could locate the church steeples under the water.
