The Fifth Horseman
an excerpt
Malcolm Astrum didn't have a first memory to speak of. Where most peoples memories stretched back providing bits of images and sounds from their early childhoods, Malcolm's memory stretched back to when he was--well--exactly like he was now.
It wasn't that he had a bad memory. After all he could remember the Great Chicago Fire. He just couldn't remember his teenage years. He could remember the cataclysm that was Vesuvius but couldn't remember ever having a birthday. He could remember Atlantis disappearing beneath the sea, but he couldn't remember his mother.
Of course he had a suspicious that he had no mother to remember. Or father. Or childhood for that matter. All Malcolm could remember was that he has always been.
