Excerpt: Falling For the Right One
Fleur Delacour sat at the Ravenclaw table sipping her coffee and nibbling on her light breakfast of yoghurt, fruit and bread. She was very grateful that she did not have to eat an English breakfast. She shuddered at the thought. She was already nervous and she couldn't imagine eating all that heavy food and then having to go through with the rest of the day. She had the third task later and she didn't need something heavy weighing her down all day. Then once the Triwizard Tournament was over, she could finally go home.
She had missed being home terribly. This might have been a great honor but not being able to be home for Christmas and Easter had been harder to bear than she thought it would be. She hadn't realized how much going home meant to her until she was unable to do that. It had meant so much to her to see Gabrielle even under the circumstances that brought her here. Just remembering her underneath that lake, made her stomach clench up in knots. She never wanted to think about her little sister in that kind of danger again.
She was about to start thinking through her spells and the maze that she would face later when Madame Maxime walked up behind her. She turned around and smiled at her Headmistress. "Good Morning, Madame."
Madame Maxime smiled down at her favorite student. She knew she shouldn't have a favorite but she had a soft spot for Fleur. "Good Morning, Fleur. The champions are congregating in the chamber off the hall after breakfast."
Fleur wondered for a moment if this was another photo session or interview. She had not cared for the first one but if it was she would endure it. What she hoped was that they would be given even more information about the final task. She hated going into any situation without all the available information.
Madame Maxime nodded and head off. Fleur finished her breakfast and when she saw Cedric get up and head for the chamber, she got up gracefully and joined him. She could tell by looking at him that he had no clue what was going on. Once inside the chamber her eyes landed on a red-headed man. As she looked him over and took in his appearance. He dressed differently than most of the guys she was used to dating. They had always been the clean cut types but Fleur always found them a bit boring. There had always been a part of her that liked men that looked a bit dangerous. His long hair and his relaxed appearance made him look as if he didn't care what others thought of the way he looked but that this was the way he wanted to be and did it.
She didn't know how long she stood there staring at him (something she never did) but the shock of hearing her mother's voice jolted her back to where she should be. She turned and her face lit up at seeing her. "Maman."
She ran over and threw herself into her mother's embrace. It felt good to feel those arms around her and just having her here gave her the much needed boost of strength she needed. She looked over her mother's shoulder and saw her father, breaking away from her mother she went and embraced her father. She felt a tug on her robes and looked down and smiled at her little sister. She knelt down so that she was in eye contact with her. "Hello, my doe. How have you been since the last time I saw you?"
Gabrielle smiled brightly at he big sister and wrapped her arms around her neck. "I have been wonderful. I missed you."
Fleur smiled and hugged her sister back. "I missed you too." Fleur stood and began talking to her mother. She looked over her mother's shoulder at the man she saw earlier and noticed that Harry had joined them. She knew Harry's story, just like everyone else in the Wizarding World and knew it wasn't his family. She went back to talking to her family and noticed the man looking around the chamber. She was so used to guys staring at her but this man didn't seem to take notice of her and that intrigued her. There weren't very many people who could resist the lure of three part Veelas.
Her mother noticed that she wasn't looking at them and around for a moment and followed her daughter's gaze. She turned back to her daughter and raised a delicate eyebrow. Fleur blushed and turned her full attention back to her family. It wasn't long until her father decided that he wanted to walk around the grounds. It wasn't often that a wizard outside of England got a chance to visit the famous school. The Delacour's headed out of the chamber and Gabrielle skipped ahead and grabbed her father's hand while Fleur and Apolline fell back so they could talk.
Apolline looked at her daughter for a moment and then smirked. "That boy you were staring at was rather good looking. Do you know who he is?"
Fleur looked at her mother sharply and said defiantly. "I was not staring." Her mother just gave her a look and Fleur sighed. "Maybe a little and no, I do not know who he is. He is not a student here."
Apolline could only giggle at her oldest daughter. "Then my love, you should find out. Someone at this school must know him and his family."
Fleur thought for a moment and then smiled. It should be easy to ask one of the Ravenclaw girls at lunch and hopefully they would know him. If they did, then she would find out as much as possible about him. She wasn't sure why she cared since she would be leaving England soon but she couldn't help herself from wondering about him.
They spent the morning touring the grounds once it was time for lunch they headed back to the Great Hall and sat at the Ravenclaw table. Fleur looked across the hall and noticed the man she saw earlier sitting at the Gryffindor table. After she was finished eating and while her parents were distracted, she noticed a seventh year looking in the same direction. She leaned over and whispered. "Excuse me."
The girl turned and looked at her with a smile. "Yes?" Fleur returned the smile. "Could you tell me who zat man is sitting wiz "Arry Potter?"
The girl looked back at Fleur with narrowed eyes and Fleur would have rolled her eyes but she needed this girl to tell her the information she wanted. "Bill Weasley. He was a seventh year whe I was a first year. I was a bit surprised to see him here. Last I heard Gringotts had sent him to Egypt."
Fleur turned back and looked at Bill. She had recently applied to Gringotts hoping to get a job here in England and improve her English. She turned back to the girl. "You said 'e works for Gringotts?"
The girl nodded. "Yes. My dad works at the Ministry with his dad. He's a curse-breaker and has been in Egypt for the past several years."
Fleur gave her a sweet smiled. "Zank you." She then turned away from her almost dismissing her. She looked back over at Bill, she was still amazed at how handsome she thought he was. She had been with beautiful men before but there was just something about him and wanted to know him. A part of her wanted to walk up to him and introduce herself but knew that at this moment she could not. She could only hope for a chance later on.
