The Grave of the Ranger
an excerpt

“Texas!” Percy said with a grin, knowing how much Ben hated leaving New York City and turning Ben’s bad mood into an absolutely foul one. “You know, Fort Worth isn’t really that bad of a place. And the Spring Palace is nice. You can see all sorts of…”

“Don’t start, Percy,” Ben growled, cutting him off. “I’ve already heard all about what a respectable modern place Fort Worth is.”

“Hey, at least they have electricity in your hotel.”

“Maybe so, but it’s still just a glorified shipping depot. It’ll never amount to more.” Percy opened his mouth to say more, but Ben stopped him with a glare. “You’ll never convince me that it’s anything else, so don’t waste your breath trying. And by the way, the editor wants to see you. He said something about story about a garden exhibition.”

Much to Ben’s satisfaction, Percy blanched. “He wants that now? He told me that I had until Wednesday!”

“Today is Wednesday Percy,” Ben said, and went home to pack.
