Synopsis: The Difference Between Red and White Wine
Leah is one of two Sonoma siblings who inherit a fine-dining restaurant in the aftermath of their parents' untimely deaths. She and her sister must decide whether to try to keep the restaurant running. In the process of growing up and differentiating from her sister and family, Leah discovers things about herself that drive her to express her true beliefs in ways that shock her -- and the people around her.
Meanwhile, on the east coast, Fred and Damini, two FDA scientists, are getting to know each other as they learn their way around practices and politics in the drug evaluation center. Leah's path crosses theirs in a thrilling and funny conflagration of plans and personalities.
Excerpt: The Difference Between Red and White Wine
Three days until Election Day and Leah wondered what she could do, fast.
Her cell phone rang; it was Rick, the bassist.
“Say, Leah, I'm going to a rally tonight, at 7. Wanna go?”
“A date? With you? Oh, sorry, Rick. I didn't mean it that way at all. I meant yes.”
“All right!” He was high-fiving the air in her mind.
Leah grinned. “Where should we meet? Wait.” The word “meet” reminded her of something. “I know, the Clown Burgers at 17th and Berger, 6:30.”
“Sounds good. Um, want me to come and get you?”
“No, I'll be out and about. I'll meet you there. Thanks, Rick, see you then! Bye!”
Her heart started to pound as she thought about what she was going to do. She felt a little sorry for Rick already; he would be not the smooth guy with the cool chick on his arm, as she thought he was planning, but the guy with the chick in the meat dress.
