Excerpt: From Reverie

I stood before the great mirror again. Was it all in my head? I reached out my fingers, and held them, millimeters from the glass surface. I closed my eyes and meditated there, longing to feel a breeze, a suction of air, or a warm tingling indicating the opening of the portal. I stood there, it felt, for an eternity just wishing for it to change. I believed, in some obscure place in my mind, that it would change. My arm began to shake from the tensing of the tendons and having to hold still so long. Then I felt my body inching forward, and I wanted badly to pass through. But my fingers touched suddenly against the cold of the unapologetic glass, and I was awakened from my thoughts.
