Excerpt: Mirrors Lie
"Just think of all the kids we can have, Roman." Annalise's voice caught. "Roman?"
"Yes, all the kids." Roman wanted to smash the cell phone he held in his hand. He looked around the library, it smelled stall and slightly damp. He choked back a sob. "Here comes the librarian, gotta go."
She giggled. "Love you doll. Tell that old librarian to quit being such a cow."
"Ann." He chuckled and turned off the phone. Hot tears sprang into his eyes. What the hell did it matter anyway? He stood up and pushed his chair into the carroll. A tear fell off his chin and he quickly wiped his face. He glanced over to see if she was there at her desk.
The sour librarian, sat at her desk. Her long hair pulled back from her face. She glanced up and stared for a moment at Roman.
He looked down and patted his front pockets and hurried off to find the bathroom. He couldn't let anyone see him like this, not that they knew anything much about the library.
If they only really knew the real William 'Roman' Anton III, but they couldn’t open their eyes enough to see him and now, if he fell they'd see everything.
"Nice." A woman's voice.
Roman turned to see two students standing there.
The shorter one whistled and gave him the thumbs up.
He gave a quick nod and walked into the men's room. What kind of man ran away from hot chicks?
The mirror flashed back a dark handsome reflection, someone Roman didn't even really know but then the outside image was all anyone ever saw of him and apparently cared for. Not even Ann really knew what was inside him. But with her charms and giggling and constant waste of money. Why hadn't her parents cut her off yet?
