Excerpt: Working Title -

Jerrica trailed slowly behind Lark and listened to Lark speak.
“What do you know about your neighbors here?” Lark questioned, in regards to the Andrede’s next door neighbors.
“What do you mean? I know that Ms. Kerchek lives alone with her son, Frank. Why?” Jerrica asked, turning the corner with Lark. Lark stopped just outside a bedroom. There was a trashcan near the window. Lark placed her right forefinger to her lips and then pressed her finger to Jerrica’s lips and Jerrica knew not to make a sound. Lark slowly lifted the top of the trashcan. On top, there lied several adult-themed magazines with what appeared to be used condoms on top. Jerrica’s face frowned and scrunched into an expression of disgust. Lark smiled greatly on the inside, for this is the expression that she wanted to see. She also, looked disgusted when Jerrica glanced at her.
“Gross!” Jerrica whispered. “What the hell is that?” Jerrica questioned. Lark squint her eyes quickly. With just that one line, in fact, that one word, hell, Lark knew that she could turn Jerrica into something that she initially was not. She figured that it might take some work, but Jerrica could become Lark’s new follower, as several girls already had, in previous states and cities.
“Looks like your neighbor Frank is a pervert.” Lark said.
“He’s friends with Jake.”
“I bet. Looks like he’s friends with,” Lark emphasized each name she read from the cover of the adult-themed magazines, “Jenny Jiggling Juggs, Tawny Two-Titts, Barbie Biggums and Carol Comes Lightly.”
Jerrica made another face.
“Not to mention, his hands. I’m sure they’re his best friends.” Lark smiled a nasty smile.
Suddenly, there was movement from within the bedroom. Jerrica became scared and started to move as though to run back over the fence. Lark grabbed her arm and shushed her.
“Don’t make any noise. I wanna see what’s going on.”
“Are you crazy,” Jerrica whispered, “I don’t wanna get in trouble.”
“I said,” Lark started angrily, but quickly calmed, as she remembered that she was speaking to a twelve year old child, “I just wanna see what’s going on. I promise, it’ll be okay.”
Jerrica was still nervous, but trusted Lark. Lark stood on her tip toes and peered through the window. She had already been here, in this position a few nights back, including last night. Jerrica had no way of knowing that and Lark saw no reason to mention it at this point. Lark knew that from the window they stood at, that Frank’s bed was not facing them and that she could almost get a clear view of what he was doing. As she peered in, she could see that he was moving under the cover, though she knew not exactly what he was doing. In fact, Frank was completely under the thin bed sheet that separated him from his bedroom. Suddenly, he stopped moving. His emerged from the cover. Lark’s eye grew big and she ducked slightly, trying not to be seen.
“You know, this is called peeping tom and I think you could get in trouble for it.” Jerrica said.
“Shhh,” Lark warned. “I think he’s seen us.”
“What?” Jerrica scared, pulled away from Lark’s grip and ran to the fence. Lark was close behind. The two girls got back over the fence and ran into the Andrede’s home. Both Lark and Jerrica landed their backs against the front door as it closed behind them. Laughing from nervousness with horrible images still swirling about their heads, the two girls looked at each other and laughed harder as they held their stomachs. Jerrica was still trying to catch her breath when she spoke.
“That was disgusting.”
Lark smiled and swallowed. The two girls
“What was disgusting,” Mother asked from around the corner. The girls looked slightly surprised, Jerrica more so than Lark, who simply replied calmly.
“A bug that I smashed,” Lark replied, and gave Jerrica a knowing look. Jerrica would follow her lead.
“It was one of those great big potato bugs.” Lark lied beautifully...
