Synopsis: Mirrored Walkways

A mirror cracked is seven centuries bad luck. Seriously, crack a mirror, expect some unusual visitors. Sometimes, these are regular people who have no idea what they are getting into. Sometimes, they are unusual people who know exactly what they are doing, and aren't always very kosher about their designs.

ETA: Original plot changed a little bit since NANO started. . . and became a bit more complicated. >_<

On Halloween night, Ari Hunter chooses her promise ring over her boyfriend. She fully expects to spend the holidays alone and miserable at home with her parents, but then her parents yank the rug out from under her.

The crazy but filthy rich aunt in the family adopts a teenager and begins to cut off all ties to the rest of the 'real' family. Ari is sent to live with this aunt to defend the 'real' family's piece of the pie.

The night after she arrives, Ari spots the frightening shadow men who haunt the house, and discovers that her aunt stalks the house at midnight with a horse whip and a string of blue glass (evil eye) beads.

The teenaged adopted-cousin (Leila) explains that Aunt Toddle is the latest in a long line earthlings chosen to protect a certain doorway between worlds, and she (Leila) has been chosen to replace Toddle when the time comes.

The doorway was shut seven centuries prior - and there has always been somebody making sure that it stays shut - despite the desperation of the shadow guys to open it up and regain their powers and freedom. As it turns out, earth is regarded as nothing more than a prison planet by the people of the other world.

Leila advises Ari to keep quiet about what she sees, since shadow men can only hurt people who see them. Not even a day passes before Ari reveals all and gets caught.

Forced to choose between torture and opening the doorway - Ari opens the doorway for the shadow guys, believing that they will be gone forever and life will go back to normal. She soon learns the true meaning of fear as ALL prisoners are freed and seek out to destroy their captors and rule the universe, and the 'captors' are very angry at her and set out to make her pay.
