The gift of Angels
an excerpt
Anna could not move her arm. She felt pain throughout her body. A taste of blood filled her mouth. She was almost scared to spit. She wanted to cry out to find out if the rest of her family was in bad shape as she was.
This was supposed to be the best day out. Her parents had planned this day for a month. They would all go to the state fair. Dad would get his funnel cake. Mom would eat her onion rings. Anna would eat her cheese on a stick. Callie would buy her beloved cotton candy.
Everything changes the minute that the tire hit the object in the middle of the road. Her father yelled for them to hang on to something. The next thing she remembered was the car sliding and then rolling over. Objects in the car started to roll as if they were put in the washing machine.
Anna heard her sister voice cry out in panic. Then as quickly as the accident happen everything became silent. Anna wondered if she could reach her father’s cell phone to call for help. She tried to move and that is when she felt the pain sweep through her body.
She decided it was not worth the effort to move because she might have other injuries that cause her to be paralyzed. She called out to her parents once again and receives the strange sound of silence.
A beautiful light appears. The warmth of the light overcomes Anna. She sees the light settle on each side of the driver’s seat. “Dad?”
“Fear not little one. Your mother and father are going home.” The musical voice rang.
“They are alive?” Anna did not mean to spit out blood when she talks.
“I am sorry my child but they are going home to heaven.”
Anna started to cry. “Who is going to take care of us?”
“Do not worry little one. The Lord will watch over you. He has a special purpose in your life. He knows you are scared. Believe that he will take care of you and your sister.”
“She is alive?”
“Yes, she is very much alive. Her injuries are not as bad as yours are. Someone will take care of her while you recover in the hospital. Concentrate on healing your body.”
Anna watch as the spirit of her father was lifted out of his body. He turned around to faces her. He did not speak. He caresses her face one last time. Anna felt love and warmth from his spiritual fingers. A tear was in his eyes. Like an arrow, the three lights ascended into the sky.
Anna saw three other lights. The middle light was the spirit of her mother. Anna never saw her mother more beautiful then at that moment. Her mother mouths the words “l loves you.” Then she ascended into the sky.
Anna tries to reach out to her sister so she does not fell alone.
What fells like eternity Anna hears a human voice. “Hey, what is your sister’s name?”
“Anna” The frighten child voice said.
Anna started to relax. The spiritual voice was right. Her sister was alive and talking.
“Anna if you can hear me squeeze my hand.”
Anna gave the hand a healthy squeeze.
“Anna can you speak?”
She tried but the taste of blood in her mouth cause her to choke.
“All right do not try to speak again. It will take some time to get you out of the car. Your door is stuck and we have to use a special tool to get you out.”
Anna nodded that she understood.
Anna felt like she spent a year in the car. She felt the men lift her to place her on the gurney. She caught glimpses of her sister before she went into the ambulance. Her sister had cuts and scrapes across her face but at least she was alive.
