Hell Hath No Furies
an excerpt
The already stormy sky above her boomed with thunder. Lighting flashed, blinding her for a moment. The ground beneath her shook. Ariadne fell to the ground, and stayed there, terrified. The very earth seemed to be thrown into tumult at her request.
Another sound pierced the air: a cackling, laughing, and shrieking wave of clamorous sound. Ariadne looked up.
It looked almost as if a crack had opened in the sky: a slit of white light was directly above her, and out of it poured vibrant, wraith-like shapes, somewhat resembling women. They were enmeshed in shadows writhed about them, their hair was like slender snakes, coiling and striking. Their faces were difficult to see, but teeth more like an animals than a human’s gleamed in a flashing smile. Their eyes gleamed as well, in different colors: red, orange, and a striking blue.
Ariadne stared upward, at first certain they were coming for her. Indeed, they were coming straight down towards her, cackling and gleeful, but at the last moment they turned aside and went shrieking off in the direction of Athens.
Ariadne, still crouched on the ground, watched them until they were out of sight. A smile slowly crept onto her lips, but it faded as soon as it had come. She had cursed Theseus. But she had cursed herself long before.
Finally exhausted beyond her limits, Ariadne sunk to the ground and fell into forgetful sleep.
