Corgi Tales
an excerpt

There once was a witch and her husband, and as you know witches and mortals cannot have children, so they had none. They both wanted more than anything to have a daughter, so they went deep into the woods to the clearing where the fairies dance and asked the Queen of the Fairies to find them a daughter.

The Queen of the Fairies told them, “you may have one of our changelings, but I can’t promise she will be yours forever. You’ll have to bring her back someday. Once a fairy, always a fairy”. The husband agreed, and so did the witch, but she did not swear it true.

The Fairy Queen called to her servants and they brought a small bundle wrapped in a rose colored blanket. The Queen of the Fairies took the bundle and lifted back the edge of the blanket and all near by heard a sharp, bright yip. The Queen of the Fairies handed the bundle to the witch, and when the couple leaned over to look they saw pointy little ears, a wee pointy nose, dark russet eyes and a foxy little smile.
