The Storm Mage
an excerpt
I’m a second level academic mage. Thats MAGE. Spell it. M A G E. NOT a witch, magician, or any other petty title. Thats the legal term, and that’s what I go with. I know that your New York doesn’t even have magic, let alone a ranking system for the users, but try to stay with me, all right?
This is taking too long, and I really want to start my story, so lets just go. However, some things you should know before we begin:
1. As I said before, my world has magic. It may seem a lot like your home, but the differences are there.
2. And just like your world, running away solves every problem.
We left the watch house, Jacob giving me a few minutes to finally clean up, brushing my teeth, pulling my short brown hair into a messy bun, and pulling on the basic uniform, the black pants, shirt, and jacket that defined me as Lance Corporal Kelyn, Badge No. 729 instead of a 14 year old girl who had only been with the Watch for a year. Most prospective Coppers began when they got out of collage. For me, it had been my only option. I was left on the doorstep of the watch house by someone when I was a baby. I went to a Prep school on money that the state gave for foundlings like me to whatever guild took them in. Once I reached high school, however, it was out of school and into the workforce.
Jacob's call of "Are you COMING?" interrupted my reverie, and I hastily grabbed my cell phone and badge, and ran outside.........
