Excerpt: The End

Laid out before them, scattered carelessly by a giant child’s hand, was London. Buildings rose from all directions, and she picked out landmarks with a critical eye. With one hand still on Kat’s shoulder, she slipped the other into Andrew’s strong grip, squeezing him excitedly.
The fresh air had a definite bite to it, but this was a relief after the weary climb, and Beth drank it in, her eyes roving through streets, watching all the people passing below. Kat was equally overawed, but she was far quicker in losing interest, and before Beth was even half done looking at everything Kat was clamouring to move on again. Andrew laughed and walked her around the walkway a little bit, pointing out various landmarks to her, until Beth joined them. Back in the land of the living once more, she agreed that it was time to make the final ascent.
