CrazyLand, The Commanders story
an excerpt
The universe is split up into millions and millions of different lives. Some would call them alternate universes. How to get to these places has haunted man for lifetimes. But, how would you respond if the answer to that lay in a single gem, no bigger than a pebble or somebody’s pinky nail and a bit of power? With this combination, you can open a portal like effect. You can’t see it but if you’re sensitive enough, you might feel its presence. Also, people have wondered what they’ll find there, and what the life forms are like. Well, they’re not little people that are red, yellow, blue or any mixture of such, (unless you’re talking about fairies). They’re just regular humanoids with a heck of a lot of power in every way shape and form. To start out simply in this matter, let this be a reminder to you: Elves do exist, along with other beings. These are a type of people whom many criticize when they are drawn. They are indeed humanoids, but they also have tails and animal ears. There senses are keener and most have a very powerful attribute that is only magnified by their natural abilities. This is a story to end all stories. Also, for your benefit, we will be sticking to human years.
The only reason I’m here is for me. Only me and no one else. And once I’m free I am out of here. These thoughts ran over and over themselves in his head.
The Commander of Reality wanted the title, “Former Commander of Reality”. And he was willing to put himself in enemy hands to get it.
“Hey Wench,” he said, “what’s with this collar? I agreed to come quietly.”
Woofy, the queen of CrazyLand, was very proud of her position. “Will you stop calling me that? It’s rude! And I’m a Queen!”
The Commander gave her a blank look. “Queen wench?”
“NO!” Her delicate face was red, and her tail stuck out in anger. Her brown hair was a mess from staying up all night. This hardly affected her though. She was used to pulling all-nighters.
“My name if Queen Woofy! Queen Woofy!”
“Whatever. You haven’t answered my question.” He pointed to a leather collar around his neck. From it strung a rope, the end of which was in Woofy’s had.
Woofy was a very wise, though she seldom showed it.
“I just wanted to see it,” she said smiling, “you’re a cute kid when your not trying to kill people. Really, you’re only a child, and I didn’t want you to get lost.”
The Commander bit back the urge to curse the woman in front of him. Not that he could have anyway. A leather glove with steal lining covered his left hand, the hand he used for his magic. She was his only chance for freedom at the moment. So he decided to torture her a different way.
“Wench,” he mumbled loud enough for her to hear.
Woofy’s ears twitched and he felt satisfaction. But the feeling stopped as she turned and he saw the look on her face. She grinned evilly and jerked on the rope.
But her plan wasn’t at all well thought out. He lurched forward and ran into her, bowling them both over.
“Woofy!”
A man came running down the dirt path toward them. The Commander got up and didn’t even bother to dust himself off. Instead he watched as this man helped Woofy to her feet, and dusted her off.
“Are you okay?” His voice was pleasant and matched his calm sea blue eyes. His sandy brown hair was cut short, and he stood tall and firm. He looked up and saw the Commander looking at them with utter disdain.
“Woofy, who’s this?” His hand moved to the hilt of his sword.
“Nick, this is Lon. Lon this is Nick.” She said this joyously and with all smiles. “He’ll be staying here for a while, we all just need to get along. Not like I think its going to happen right away, but it doesn’t hurt to say it anyway.”
Nicks’ face hardened, but he tried anyway. He held out his hand and said, “welcome to CrazyLand.”
Lon looked at the hand and scoffed.
“Idiots.” He replied.
Nick isn’t the kind of person to lose his temper off the bat. And if he does he always has complete control. But today was different…sort of.
Nick bent over so that he was face to face with the small boy.
“Now you look here. Woofy didn’t have to bring you here, but she did. You should be grateful that she didn’t leave you in your little hovel in Reality!”
The Commander remained silent. He didn’t have to speak up for himself. Not to this low life. Not to this fool that didn’t know what he was talking about. So he turned to Woofy.
“Queen Wench, you said that we would talk one on one in your study before nightfall. The sun is already starting to set.”
“What did you call-“
“Its fine Nick, I’ll take care of it. But I want to see you tomorrow morning, k’?” Woofy really didn’t want a fight to brake out right now. Though it would be kind of funny. She looked up at the sky and sighed. The sun wasn’t even close to mid-day.
“Y-yes. Fine. But if you need me, please don’t hesitate to ask.” With that, Nick turned and headed off down the road toward the village.
That night the Commander lay in a bed. His room, which had been showed to him by a rather small cat-demon, was filled with moonlight. One of the first things he did when he entered was that he locked the windows. And before he got into bed, he locked his door.
Unable to get comfortable, he got up and laid the blanket out on the stone floor. In Reality he didn’t have a bed. Instead, he’d had a pile of hay, and because he was the highest of rank, he would get a fresh pile each night. Not much difference when the smell of death surrounds you anyway.
He sat up and stared across the room from him, at a floor length mirror.
What are you doing here? They think your scum! They hate you and look down upon you. In Reality, though, you are exalted. You are praised and worshiped! Why are you here, where all the people you see think you shouldn’t exist? They think they’re better just because they weren’t born as you were. They think you’re the lowest thing that came from the lowest planet where all scum was originally spawned!
He ran his fingers through his long white hair.
Why? Why do I find myself caring about what they think of me?
A knock on the door made him jump. Regaining his composure, he walked to the door. It knocked again as the Commander turned the lock. He opened it slowly, and only and crack.
Outside the door, rocking on her heels stood the cat-demon that had showed him his room. She was short, with orange hair. Her bright green eyes shone in the dark and the stripes on her cheek were covered in dirt. Her tiger tail swayed side to side in an anxious manor.
“Did I wake you?” She whispered nervously.
“What?” He asked. He really didn’t care what the little rat was doing in the middle of the night, but sense he was up, he might as well find out. Thought he didn’t like it.
“I-in case you don’t remember, my name is Lieko-san. A-and w-well, I got you some thing. And I couldn’t wait ‘till morning. Anyway it’s prettier in the moon-light.”
She held out a small package. It was wrapped in light blue paper, and tied with a darker blue ribbon that shone silver in the light.
“It’s just a welcome gift, really. But I hope-” she stopped cold. The Commander had just slammed the door in her face. She looked down at the present and then back at the door. Carefully and quietly she laid the blue package down in front of the barrier between her and the Commander.
The next morning, after breakfast, Nick sat in front of his Queen. He fidgeted a little. He wasn’t really nervous, its just when BK smiled like that-
“Well, Nick, you seem to be in better spirits today.” Woofy came through the door, closing it gently. “BK, ten minutes, if you please.”
BK, the vice-president of CrazyLand, nodded, but stayed in her seat. She just sat there and beamed, like she knew a juicy joke, and Nick was about to find out the hard way.
“I don’t really know, Woofy. My I ask why you brought that scum into your land?”
“I asked that same thing,” BK said under her breath, but loud enough for all to hear.
“BK, I’ve changed my mind, go now.” Woofy sniffed and continued. “My reasons are my own. That’s not why I asked you here this morning.”
She began pacing and fiddling with her pen. After a while, she began.
“The fact is,” she said, trying to find the right words, “the fact is, is that he needs a mentor. A teacher if you will. You know someone who is stern, but kind. He needs a…umm…parent figure, yeah, that’s it.”
Nick really did not like where this was going.
“That is why,” Woofy paused as Lon appeared at the doorway.
“-Why I think you should baby-sit him, Nick! You’re perfect!”
Nick died.
Lon didn’t know what to do. He was sitting by his window when a tall, angry cat-demon charged into his room and dragged him here.
And what was this “baby-sitting”? Should I be angry?
‘Y-your Majesty! Woofy! Please! I-I can’t stay with him 24/7!”
Eww, 24/7? With THIS guy? Talk about a daily douse of nausea.
“Aww, Nick look at him. Doesn’t he look like a cute little boy who just needs a hug?” Woofy smiled as big as possible.
Nick looked at Lon, and Lon at Nick.
Nick saw a man of about twenty, with long white hair and pale skin. His eyes were black and held something sinister. It made Nick sick just thinking about what secret those eyes could hold. At the moment, he would give anything not to be there in that room.
When Lon looked, he saw a spoiled brat that needed a beating…bad. He also saw that this man really was stupid and naive. But as he took in his person, he noticed a deep blue gem that was strung around his neck with a chain. That meant- Lon gritted his teeth.
“Queen Wench, you’ve got to be kidding.”
“Don’t call her-“ Nick began, but stopped.
“I WILL CALL HER AS I PLEASE!” Lon roared. This idiot of a man. “You must have mud for brains! Wench! You can not expect me to be influenced by the likes of him!”
Nick wasn’t going to back down.
“YOU MAY NOT DO OR SAY AS YOU PLEASE! THERE’RE ARE RULES!” He roared back, standing. It took every ounce of courage to stand up to the fiend, but it was worth it.
Lon gritted his teeth. Why did this one man irritate him so much? He wanted to scream and throw anything he could get his hands on at him. He wanted to rearrange that disgustingly pleasant face! And he knew just how to do it.
“Yes, there are rules, but I don’t apply to them.” He said this with up most authority and an air of majesty.
It really sent Nick off the deep end.
“WH-!”
“Nick, let it be,” said Woofy with a sigh. Nick choked on what he was about to say, and instead glared at the Commander as if looking at him would make him disappear. To his utter disappointment, he didn’t.
The next day Nick walked down to breakfast in the worst mood of his life. To day was a beautiful day. It also was the day he would have to spend with dirt.
In his lifetime he’d spent his childhood locked in a dark room. He was beaten, tortured, and completely desecrated. When he found CrazyLand, it was like he had finally found a real home and a safe place.
But if he had to put up with that, he’d rather still be in that dark room.
Walking through the kitchen doors, (no one used the dining hall except for parties and other special events) he said hi to his friends and sat down. Cook placed a plate of the most delicious food in front of him.
“Woofy told me to make you something special this morning. What’s the occasion?” Cook inquired.
“A very long day,” he grumbled.
“Come on, Nick, “ said Journey in her usual morning cheer. “What she asked of you can’t be that bad. Its Woofy, after all, she knows what she’s doing.”
Journey Reo was tall and muscular. She could wield any weapon she touched within a week. She was also Gatekeeper of the North Gate.
Nick could always count on her to lighten the mood on anything…but this. He shook his head and ate.
“Actually, Nick, if you don’t mind me saying, he acts a lot like you did when you came here…or so I heard.” This unwelcome comment came from Lieko-san, the Gatekeeper of the South. “Of course it was way before my time so I wouldn’t know, but I overheard a lot about it…unintentionally of course.” She added quickly.
Nick sighed. He didn’t have to work the East gate today, so that was good. But he was still as busy as ever shopping and checking up on things. Having that devil around wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.
Nick waited out side for his care, which didn’t show up right away, and when he did, he took his sweet time coming down the stairs.
“Good,” He said when the Commander finally reached ground level. “Now come on, I haven’t got all day. I got a lot of stuff to do.”
With that he walked out of the castle gates. Turning, he realized that he would have to slow down. Again, the Commander was walking at his own speed. Proving as Nick so readily caught on, that he didn’t follow rules.
The day was what one would call…a very busy day. And to the two, it was the beginning of Armageddon. If they were going to be spending the rest of the time together, it might as well be the end of the world.
