Excerpt: Eternal Waltz
It was twilight when I first heard of it. It was quiet and the soft tune filled the air. It was sweet and gentle like an autumn wind. I walked towards the window to listen more. The notes blended perfectly.
I listened more and realized that it was a violin playing. I opened my window and the sweet melody entered my small room. Then I saw who was playing such music, it was the boy from next door. He was standing in front of his window with his eyes closed while playing the violin. I was shocked. From what I know, he’s just ten years old.
The boy was pale and thin. Like, a harsh gust of wind could blow him away. From my mother’s stories, he was always sick and because of that, he was home schooled.
I stared at him in awe. I wanted to listen more but he suddenly stopped playing. He opened his eyes and he looked at me. I blinked a few times then smiled at him and waved my hand. In turn, he nodded at me with a smile before turning his back on me and letting down the curtains.
I closed the windows as well then sat down on my bed. I play the violin too but not as good as that boy. I take lessons and he doesn’t. It’s like he was born to play the violin. I sighed as I stared at my own violin in front of me. I’ve been practicing for six months now and yet I couldn’t perfect a single piece.
