Jarred Rhodes, FBI
an excerpt

Suddenly, someone made a move behind the opposite barrier. Kathy tore out from behind the barrier, retreating back along the left wall towards the entrance the agents had originally entered, shooting behind her as she went, towards her partners. Gates angled himself to guard her movements, but Jarred slammed his hand on his arm, stopping him. Something was wrong.
“Get out, Jarred, get out!” she screamed over the noise of her own gun. She turned and flew down the room, desperation in her movements.
Jarred looked up just in time to see their targets retreating the opposite direction toward the back door, and the dull flicker of light casting on the ceiling from behind the barrier. The smell of gasoline suddenly hit him, as realization flooded over him. The explosives had been set.
“Whoa, whoa, guys, come on!” He grabbed Gates’and leaped to his feet, dashing after Kathy towards the exit. Mitch caught on in a flash and at was at his side in an instant, the sounds behind them warning them that the fire was quickly engulfing everything around it.
“Come on, come on!” They ran as fast as they could, the light flooding the compartment behind them, casting their shadows in front of them. Jarred was sweating from the adrenaline, but his mind focused in slow motion upon the roar and heat of the flames zooming after them, knowing that their chances of beating the fire was slim. They only had a few seconds….
“Come on!” Kathy slammed into the door and yanked it open for the men as they rushed past, Jarred making sure to grab her by the arm as he went through. The inferno was licking at their heels….
“Down!” Jarred yelled, throwing his weight into Gates, dragging Kathy to the floor with him, his arm sheltering her beneath him. The shockwave rippled through the tunnel, flames bursting over their heads in a ear-piercing roar, shattering the hinges off the door behind them.
The same second the initial blast past them, Jarred pulled up from his curled position and shoved everyone to their feet, pushing Mitch and Kathy up the long corridor. “Come on, we’ve got to keep going!” he urged.
“The gas is everywhere,” Kathy prodded, “we set the top floor to explode when the fire reaches it. The hall’s going to act like a wind tunnel, too; we’ve got to get to the top before the whole thing lights up.”
They clawed their way back up through the dark, twisting slope to the top, the roaring sounds of the blaze echoing up to them as they went. Every few seconds, they could hear beams inside the walls snapping, glass bursting under the heat. The agents pushed and hustled each other up the incline, glancing back now and again. No one said a word, only panting and encouraging each other to hurry. Jarred hadn’t let go of Kathy’s arm, and she didn’t resist his assistance.
They piled out into the warehouse main room and rushed out the door, the daylight blinding them. Jarred rounded everyone towards the truck, running with their last burst of speed towards their only means of escape.
“Go, go!” Jarred finally let go of Kathy and pulled out his keys, tearing towards the driver’s side. “This one’s going to blow right over us!”
The Silverado roared to life. Jarred threw it into reverse, the tires spinning under his demands. The fire had reached the ground floor, lights playing through the windows.
“Hurry, Jarred!” Kathy yelled, desperation setting in.
Jarred’s lips curled in determination as he adjusted to look out the back window, the truck pushing to the max in their flight. The agent suddenly spun the wheel around and threw the truck into a 180, jolting everyong off balance from the centrifigal force. Just as he regained control, the entire warehouse exploded, glass and wood splintering in all directions. It was like a bomb had gone off inside, collapsing most of the building and catching fire to the rest. The debris showered down on them, some landing in the truck bed, and where the truck had been sitting in front of the warehouse. The four of them gazed through the back window, watching the reign of fire and debris as it fell or bounced to the ground. No one spoke. In fact, they were incapable of saying anything.
They all could have been dead.
