Brief Author Bio:

An editor of fiction and nonfiction for over 13 years, Cheri Lasota has recently finished writing her first novel and is working on its sequel. Cheri honed her editing and writing skills working for three school newspapers, including a stint as editor-in-chief of "The Vanguard," a weekly student newspaper at the University of South Alabama. After receiving a B.A. from USA in film, she pursued a career in editing-first nonfiction, and then exclusively fiction. Her particular areas of specialty are historicals, romances, and fantasies. She also writes a bimonthly newsletter for writers on various aspects of the craft.

Synopsis: The Faltering Stone

ARETHUSA is a young Azorean woman who vows to adopt her mother’s pagan beliefs. With every horror she experiences—a shipwreck, an attempted murder, a stoning—she suspects that her choice has cursed her into following in the tragic footsteps of her namesake, the mythological nymph Arethusa. But is this ancient destiny real or imagined?

The young marquis DIOGO makes the curse more real than anything else in Arethusa’s life. His pursuit of her is so passionate and cruel that she wonders if the spirit of the myth’s malevolent river god, Alpheus, lives inside him. Enraged at her fearful rejection of him, DIOGO seeks to possess Arethusa in life or in death.

As soon as Arethusa meets the orphan TRISTAN, they fall into a tentative but deep love. Yet in loving her, he falls prey to a similar curse through his own name, based on the knight Tristan of Arthurian legend. Arethusa and Tristan discover they will endure a lifetime of separation unless they can break the curse of their names. The real question: can myth become truth if you believe strongly enough?
