The Chronicles of Razengard 1: The Invisible Blade
an excerpt

It was indeed Master Rocco's voice. But it was deformed by pain and suffering. It was horrible to even think about it. What could possibly be causing so much pain to powerful Master Rocco?
"We have to help him!" June urgently said.
And before anyone could stop her, she began to shout, her hands cupping her face.
"Master Rocco! We're coming! We'll help you, just hold on!"
She almost started to run again, but Gowrick caught her arm.
"Are ye mad?" he reprimanded.
Whatever he was about to say after that was never said. A cold chill gripped at all of their hearts, crushing it under waves of fear and terror. Sweat formed on Dylan's forehead. He was so hot, yet he couldn't stop shivering.
"Master Rocco?" he dared to call out again.
Gowrick didn't stop him this time, apparently fighting his own inner demons.
"Master Rocco?" the plainsman called again, gaining confidence.
That confidence was sucked up by the void of fear that had built itself inside all of them during the following seconds. At first, there was absolute silence. It was as if nothing had happened, as though everything was normal.
Pandemonium broke out. The wind rolled against them like waves against the shore during a storm. Birds from all around took flight, cawing in fear and in alarm, warning others of the disturbance. The scream came again; this time so powerful it nearly flattened the plainsman to the ground.
"DON'T COME ANY CLOSER!"
Having decided that she was going to save Master Rocco, maybe even at the expense of her own life, June yanked her arm out of Gowrick's grip and took a step forward. There was such determination in her eyes that Dylan would never have thought to stop her in any other situations.
Except that this wasn't any other situation. An instinct screamed at Dylan to get out of there, to forsake his friends if he had to, as long as it allowed him to escape.
Luckily for June, the rational part of the plainsman's mind brought him to a stride from her. She spun on him, wind flaying her hair about.
"Don't even think of stopping me!" she warned.
A horrible sound was heard. It was like someone had just taken the biggest tree in the forest and smashed it across someone's back. A ripping noise followed, making the plainsman's heart lurch. The scream of pain came again. June lunged forward, whimpering in restrained longing to help the poor man.
"RUN!" Master Rocco screamed again. "RUN!"
Run…
