Leaves rustle to a rest on top of the long grass. He turns away, looking out at the wide lake.
I wonder where he is. Is he at the airport? Has he already gotten on the plane? Does it matter? He’ll be home soon- just a couple more hours. Nevertheless, I miss him. But he’ll be here soon.
Reflections of the orange clouds wisp across his gray and blue eyes and the growing shadows make the scars on his face more noticeable. His blond hair floats across his face in the slight breeze, and he lets it tickle his nose and cover his eyes. He sighs, blowing a strand of hair out of his vision and looking for a nice spot in the grass. He flops onto the ground; the grass sways around his elbows and swishes at his ears. Lazy eyes closing, he waits, falling asleep in the field.
He sneaks up on his sleeping friend under the waxing moon. He’s tired; plane flights always leave him exhausted. Crouching next to the other man, he leans over; his long black dreadlocks hover inches above his roommate’s face. “Trev?”
