The Unforgettable Rebellion
an excerpt
"Mori knelt down and stretched out his neck. David smirked and waited as someone with a sword jumped from one of the trees and traded the sword to him for his knife. He raised the blade high above the boy’s neck. “Mori, you were my best friend…so I’m willing to give you your last words before killing you off,” he said. Mori said nothing. David sighed and brought the blade down as hard as he could."
"“Boy, do you enjoy this sort of thing?” the man asked. It was obvious that he was enraged. Zero smirked, then closed his eyes and responded in a calm but distressed voice “I’m not telling you. If I say I enjoy it, you’ll find something worse to do to me that I certainly won’t enjoy, and will be lucky to survive. If I say I don’t enjoy it, you’ll be really thrilled to watch me suffer. I’d rather make you guess than see you too busy or happy. But what do you think, you old fart? Is this sort of thing really all that enjoyable? Maybe one of these days you’ll be in a similar situation. I certainly hope you survive. I’m sure all that fat’ll protect you.”
“You little rat! I’ll make you bleed! I’ll make you scream!” his uncle roared and grabbed his throat. The guards pulled the man away.
Zero began to remove his shirt, saying “If you can make me scream, more power to ya, but anybody can make anybody bleed.” "
"“Why you dragon breathed dog!” David roared and made like he wanted to attack his former friend, but the chains held him back and caused him to cry out in pain as his back smacked against the stone. “If that stupid animal was only two seconds late, you would be out of my hair forever!”
“But he wasn’t late,” Mori said with an almost evil grin, though there were no true nasty intentions behind it. He was honestly more amused at the actions of this man than anything, “Remember…the town council is even angry at you. Since I was your intended victim, and used to be your friend, only my say so will set you free…and as things stand, I have no intention of letting you out of this cave.”
“And I thought you were a fool,” David said with a truly wicked smirk, “Ah, do not forget, Mori…our former leader was an intended target too. It was his fault your precious queen and those four others died. He truly believed that by running to them for help, he could save himself and protect them. Do you think they forgave him? Maybe you should just tell your clan who you used to wander the forests with…”
“I didn’t kill anyone! Neither did Allon! You know he’s powerless, you overtook him! You people were the bad guys, not him! And now that I know you’ve killed Ruby, I won’t even feed you! I’ll let you rot!” Mori cried. He turned around to leave the cave, wiping his tears in an attempt to try and hide them. “I’ll let you rot…I’ll let the snakes and bugs and rats eat you,” he cried and shoved his hands into his eyes, trying to stop the tears. David laughed a strange, perverted, cruel laugh. Mori walked away, whishing he had never come to visit the man. "
"Yu had never been whipped except for that one time that Pearl had tried to beat him into agreeing to marry her. The pain had been terrible, and he had screamed. He also screamed when his sister was beaten, and ever since, whenever the white haired girl would mess up and anger the captain, he insisted on taking her place. Of course Captain Pearl was starting to fall in love with prince Yu, and wished not to harm him, so she let his sister go without being punished also.
Yu backed away as the captain approached him. “Please, I’ve not done anything wrong,” he said. His silver eyes were wide and sweat was running down his forehead, despite the cold air and biting wind. The woman chuckled and said “I haven’t come up for that. I have decided to help you get to The Forest Country after all. Besides, my dear prince…have you not noticed that I took no pleasure in your pain the first and last time.”
Pearl let the whip rest on her hook and brought her hand to the prince’s face. His skin had gone grey from fear, and he cold touch made him want to scream. She ran her hands along his cheek, bringing her finger to rest on his lips saying “Perhaps one day I can win your heart.”
“That will never happen,” Yu growled at her, “besides, these are not times for romance.” "
Note: Those were just a few quoted paragraphs and such from my novel, as I get a little irritated with the chapter excerpts, and suspense is fun.
