Synopsis:
An attempt to parody and subvert all that is horrid and silly about many romance novels of the day.
Excerpt:
After Katsumi returned to her human form and glided gracefully back to her concealing corner, the teacher looked between the four remaining young women. All were more timid than the first three who had stood in the center of the room to transform for the teacher. For various reasons, they had yet to feel fully comfortable in the Sisterhood. She felt for them, but knew that being too gentle now would do them no good later in life. They must learn to stand up for themselves and not shy away from responsibility. After a short deliberation, she called Eva into the center of the room to evaluate her shifting skill.
The petite Latin beauty rose gracefully from her seat near the door and walked carefully onto the center rug. Her large dark eyes, framed by long, soft lashes glanced nervously towards the teacher and the other students before breathing deeply and biting her bottom lip in concentration. After several moments, and several false starts that made the teacher and students blink and look away, she shifted into a chocolate brown alpaca. The shift did not last long, and as she returned to her human form, Eva collapsed to the floor, pale and breathing hard. She had been beaten many times after her gift had manifested by her superstitious parents and was still far from comfortable with shifting.
