Wendy was tired; the core of her self exhausted, the last seven hours squished into a mosaic of blue, chrome and pain. It was not an easy birth, despite the preparations they both took. She felt empty and raw, nothing at all like the books said she would feel, and that frightened her. She looked hard at George, feeling the baby suckle and grunt contentedly.
