Brief Author Bio:

I was born and raised in South Carolina and received a degree in mechanical engineering from USC in 1985. Right after that I moved to Maryland where I work at the Naval Air Warfare Center (Pax River).

I've been married for 20 years and have two kids. I can't believe one of them is in high school! How did that happen? I guess you could say I'm a "County Boy" after living here over half my life. That term has a special significance to Southern Marylanders and I'll be drawing from my experience in St. Mary's County to write a sick, twisted mainstream fiction piece this year.

Synopsis: Slack Water

Lacey is a disaffected teen, shuttled off to live with her grandfather after her mother's suicide. With little to do near her new home on St. George Island in southern Maryland, Lacey takes a job at the local marina where she meets a handsome mate from a fishing boat. But she also catches the eye of Tim, the marina owner's son. Tim is battling his own demons after a boating accident years ago left him in a wheelchair. What happens when remorse, love and deceit meet along the tidal Potomac?

Excerpt: Slack Water

The blood was undeniable. Rachel could no longer busy herself with chores, or other distractions. There was no tumor. There was no terminal disease. If only. If only... She hypervenilated and fell to the floor, her face lying in the vomit from before. Rachel screamed at the monsters that were under her bed - the ones who had frightened her a few short years ago - the ones who became real and visited her still in the night. They were hiding in the darkness, cowering behind boxes of dolls and love notes from the boy down the way. They laughed at her.
She clawed at the blanket, trying to drag herself up on the bed but the sheets pulled free and gathered at her desperate hands. Tears streamed down Rachel's face and across her lips. Again - the pain - stabbing. It was her atonement - her cleansing - her punishment for a sin she didn't commit.
